The problem with the devils fork is that it can only can exist without a material texture.
All drawings you see of it are in black white , because " empty " is white and the texture is white.
As soon as you realize this on a colored background which moves when you walk , the effect disappears.
Maybe with a smart reflection in water , but i don't think its possible.
You can use it as a texture on a stone lying somewhere in the park as you did with the hands on the table.
or a rotating stone in the air like in eder gira, but not as real 3dimensional object.


I never finished the chair, i will find some time to do that. give me a week to post the Blendfile.

There are some nice escher picture's of repeating fishes and birds, or devils and angels.
If you make one of those transparent , you will get a sort off grate.
I think that can also been used.

Here's the fern! (The original mesh was intended to be a wide-bladed grass, i just gave it some more droopy-ness and widened the blades a bit) Hope it will work... its a bit more leafy than the ones in the drawing, but I think it will suit just fine with a good texture.

Fern Plant

Thanks!

Now, about that fern plant. I looked at Escher's print and realized we put the Fall tree where the fern plants need to go. Do ferns do Fall?

The fourth door is in; it still needs wired. I agree that we need to find a purpose for that little house. It's a great little space and it's almost a puzzle to get to it. Finding a surprise in there would be appropriate.

Speaking of being a puzzle to get to, I'm STILL getting lost in here. I learned do . not . type /spawn. I'm not certain where I would have eventually wound up because I grabbed for the Relto book!

Regarding the devil's fork, since it depends on a white background maybe we could do something in the winter scene? We will have snow and it is white. I think if I just lay a faded gray texture on the snow it might work. I won't know till I try. I'd use the plain drawing fork, because we're trying to keep this specifically about Escher and not just illusionary drawings.

BTW, with all Escher's prints I'm putting in here, it's starting to seem like a real museum :D . It's cool and the music suits it. It will be a very nice place to relax and just spend time looking and reflecting. Good idea Karkadann!

Interesting note, I think Escher's has buildings based on the Crazy Crate and Penrose's Triangle and Stairs
Might make for an interesting age if any one can figure them out.

Any place in particular you'd prefer I place that Karkadann? If not, I'll just find an empty spot in a field. I'm still holding to my original declaration that I'm leaving the camera coding to someone else. This is not your typical age build. Tach's done some pretty sophisticated coding in here to make this whole thing work. I've barely scanned the surface of what he built, but I have discovered that the fourth door is located in a sub-world. I'm going to attempt to code it and get it working, since I have some experience working with subworlds, but I give no promises on whether I'll succeed. The main problem that I already know of from past experience is getting the collision working on the door animation. If I don't succeed, we can either ask tach for more assistance or, if all else fails, just leave the door open. That I know I can do :D .

I took denDwaler up on his idea to create grates for the windows out of some of Escher's drawings and IMHO, the result is very attractive. No screenshots though. We need to leave some surprises in this revision. I've been doing my best to keep many of the upgrades out of these screenshots, but I'll give you one tonight to illustrate the difference the build out is making:

Calena enters the Age with her backpack full of crafting materials, tools, and seed for trees and plants.

After:
Calena worked the whole night until after sunrise, looks at her work, thinks about how much she could put for this on the invoice, and wonders where the hell she lost her backpack and the jacket.

if there are any other models you think I can do for something else be in touch.

as far as the Backpack and jacket, ......might be in the House you built :D

What an amazing change and transformation, Calena and everyone involved, even with only viewing a part of it, while sensing and imagining the whole scope of the makeover or embellishment ... I can't wait to see and explore the final product of this astounding collaborative creation ... :P

Invoice? You mean we can charge for this!!!??? What's our hourly rate? I'm thinking something in the neighborhood of $ .02 USD per day. If we're lucky, someone might send us a donation :D .

Before: Calena's grandson prepares our avatar to go 'splorin. That means exploring in 9YO American speak. We enter the house carrying a backpack with all the necessities of life - candy bars, juice boxes, flash light, pocket knife and towelettes. We had no idea what we were getting into. It looked like a simple abandoned house when we first linked in. Then we stepped on this "thing". Next thing we know, the whole place is turning upside down and inside out! Grandson got sick and threw up in the grass. Being too afraid to step back on that "thing", we inched forward carefully. We were making progress when grandma accidentally stepped on another one of those contraption things and disappeared from sight. Grandma picks herself up off the floor and starts running in a frantic attempt to find grandson. She finally spots him on the other side of the house, then immediately panics when she realizes he appears to be walking straight up a wall!

"Grandson! Get off that wall, you're going to hurt yourself!" Grandson spots grandma and yells, "Hey, how are you hanging upside down like that? Can I do that too?" "No! Stay there and DON'T MOVE. I'll rescue you." Grandma rushes off to the rescue and falls off a ledge winding back up on her Relto. Grandson in the meantime is doing handstands and trying to figure out how to attach himself to the ceiling.

By the time grandma finds her way back to the house, grandson has realized that grandma is too old and senile to ever find him in this magical place, so he hides in the little house he found to enjoy his lunch of candy bars and juice. Then he decides it's time to play hide and seek. He had a great time leading grandma on a wild goose chase all throughout the magical house till he heard grandma say the dreaded words, "I'm going to tell your papa if you don't get back here!" Grandson reluctantly joins Grandma and they leave the house, though not before grandson tells grandma that when he grows up he's going to build a house just like this to live in 8-) .

After: Calena looks at her handiwork and decides the new landmarks are good. Now she can tell where the heck she is in this crazy house and the next time that kid takes me on a wild goose chase . . . .
