That's what I was thinking while reading this topic.
Isn't a nexus a simple machine for fetching a book from library shelves?
Given that anyone can have a library, then anyone can have a nexus.
So there could be a GoW nexus, containing whatever books the GoW wants.

Yes, there could be. I understand that a library could function as a Nexus but something like the current design is easier to use, and keeps load times to a minimum.

Just a little bit off topic

What about a Nexus devoted to ages that have not as of yet been completed. Ages too dangerous for the normal explorer, Ages where one of the two Maintainer Suits must be used. Ages that are under development and open to those who are assisting in finding problems and discrepancies. In other words a Maintainers Nexus. This would also include the exterior worlds of the Pod Ages...

That's kind of what I meant by a Maintainer's Library. It would store Ages like that, include a Maintainer's suit vending machine, and be used for testing by the GoMa and by a writer of an Age that they need to test.

Then we'll need a Cartographers Nexus that will contain the Age that haven't been/are being mapped out.

Does Cartographers even exist outside of the small group on URU Obsession? Even so, a section in the Maintainers/Developers Nexus will work.

EDIT: I suggest splitting discussion of the Developer Nexus off to it's own thread. I'll make it and reedit with a link.
REEDIT: The topic is up and the link is http://forum.guildofwriters.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5181.

There is one advantage a library has over a nexus and it does come to light when you visit the current nexus on DI, UAM or on your own CC Drizzle instalation if you have most if not all of the ages downloaded.

The restoration Tab has rather a lot of ages 112 to be exact now on your own install you can choose to only download a few but UAM/DI has the full compliment and yes you can use /link provided the spelling's not from the outer reaches of the galaxy.

A Page down button would help and on the lower reaches you can reverse the alphabetical but the middle is still 56 mouse clicks down the list.

So how about hitting a letter key to get that section.

As I said at the start in a library you walk to the bookcase and the book you want is allways returned to the same place on the shelf Uru is nice that way.

I have been thinking: although we shouldn't have libraries for each and every guild, we could have a library behind glass, and then use a retrieval system. Here's out it would work: Player links to WNexus, uses computer to download book, then selects it. The computer turns off, and then the machine gets the book of the shelf, and then places it on a table in front of you. It then works like a regular book. There would be color scheme differences for the WNexus and Developer Nexus, but that's about it. Like it?

EDIT: We also need to edit Cyan's Nexus GUI at least a little. Although I did come up with the IC that the GoW stores the books to their restored parts of the city in their library, and that we repurposed the Cyan Nexus to work different than it's original purpose. This might help the people who are angry about us ruining IC story.

nathan2055 wrote:Although a library Age is something that would be a nice addition (I'm considering starting that project), we need something easy to use like a Nexus. And I kind of think a book library wouldn't work well as a "hangout spot", that's a different project.

I'll put it this way: why do we need the Nexus? To link in a nice IC way to our Ages. Good. But the Cyan Nexus is the least glamourous or interesting way to do this. This place is horrible, it's dark and awfully small, and most of all it has zero community/social value. It's a place where people go to alone, and stay in as little as possible. It's essentially a necessary evil. It is exactly what we must avoid recreating.
Unlike the Hood libraries, for instance. When you want to go Garrison, or one of the Eder you can meet people on the way in the hood, interact, talk about the painting above the Garrison book, maybe invite them to come with you etc..
The Community Nexus shouldn't only be a way to link to other places; it should also have a social aspect.
It may not need to be a large hangout spot, but it needs to be different from the Cyan Nexus: larger, nicer, several people should be able to be in there at the same time (several Nexus machines); it should be decorated, and as suggested it should have imagers and boards.

I like that idea a lot, I suggested it myself a while ago (here). :)
Whatever actual shape we use, I think it is worth it to sacrifice a couple seconds of loading time.

Apparently my sarcasm about the GoCart nexus was missed.

Aloys is correct though.

Ae'gura library + full with books = way more interesting than the Nexus.
