One thing that can cause lag is inefficient colliders. Please read through http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=2885 for some tips on making colliders more efficient.

This age would perform better if all these static triangle mesh colliders (98% of all the physical objects, from what I can tell) were hulls, boxes, or spheres. As it stands, I don't see how anyone can play it.

When we say "simplify your colliders", we don't mean "remove vertices." We mean change them to hulls. Hulls are MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than triangle meshes.

Your age might be the best thing since sliced bread, but no one can enjoy it if the colliders are causing massive lag.

Good Heaven!!!

Now WE are talking!

See?...I might NOT KNOW NOTHING about coding but I know how to stir things up :)

Ideas emerge at last. All I want is that someone with expertise come to the table and says what Calena (her very last post), Paradox, Hoikas wrote.

Adams says it all :
Your age might be the best thing since sliced bread, but no one can enjoy it if the colliders are causing massive lag.

What about saying to him to STFU? ;) Oh no...not him, he is the forum admin, he knows how to code!

Thanks for your support Calena and Chacal, I really appreciated! I mean it! A-P-P-R-E-C-I-A-T-E-D.

The only help I could ever give was the one I gave all throughout this thread. I spend a lot of time in his marvelous age. I identitied a serious issue. I could have STFU like 99% of explorers and say: "Great work you've done Denost!" but knowing I'd have disliked the laggy experience, that's not me, I'm true and I stand up to say the thruth!

When you go thru floor and have to re-spawn fast because you have climbed a hill, it's a pain in the rear! I did test at some point "searching for the bug" but when you just go and not expecting to be swallowed by the floor there must be an issue somewhere!

I'm done here, I'm fully proud of what I contributed to to help SOMEWHERE becoming a better age and I will now STFU!

That's that! (<----- that is my favorite sentence)

Annabelle, you're right. I now realize your real mistake was that you should have been yelling at us to get in here and help him, rather than yelling at poor denost2. I think the dev team deserves a pass on this one, given the major issues they're managing in getting the new server up right now, but I owe you guys an apology. Sorry.

I still think there's more going on here. My last age was over 210,000 vertices and most of my colliders are triangle meshes because convex hull colliders usually don't work. The meshes are decimated to keep face-count as low as possible. I'm using box colliders in the age I'm working on now and they're working fine, but sometimes I still need more refinement to the collision to keep the experience believable.

denost2, I think I'm going to have to see the Blend file. If you can upload it somewhere, I'll get to it as soon as I can. Warning - I'm hardly the most knowledgeable person here, but it's a start anyhow. It would be nice to get to the bottom of this :) . Besides, this is my kind of puzzle :D .

This issue might also be caused by the friction & elasticity bug (as in 90% of all fan-ages  ).
Denost2, did you apply D'Lanor fix for it ? It makes all the collision look more natural (well, to my mind).
It fixes the bouncing when you jump towards an object, and makes climbing hills a LOT easier/faster.

Yes the bouncing was a problem--especially when you try to climb up from the lower crystal cave. I kept bouncing off into the lava. Thanks again for the age and all your efforts.

I have read with high attention all comments and advices about SOMEWHERE.
I have decided my future activity on this Age.
A first period giving a part of my time to improve performances for the pleasure of some explorers who said their difficulties to play (*)(**).
If I do not obtain rapidly significant improvements I will stop.
In the contrary a new period will be dedicated to continue optimization of SOMEWHERE.

(*) I repeat that I only consider the performances for offline game
(**) I do not understand how I can play SOMEWHERE fluently on my computer (See previous post for characteristics which are not exceptionnal ). I began to optimize my way for using the machine.

What the hell's going on here ?! :o
I think, Somewhere are not a mainstream age for people with sneakers.
It's a age for E X P L O R E R S ! Okay, it haves some dangerous points, but so what?!

Whit Manaukas PC and with my PC as well Somewhere works nearly without problems.
So we have a lot of fun and climb hours through this age.

Thanks again, denost2!

I appreciate very much you had pleasure to explore SOMEWHERE.
And also the fact you could play nearly without problems.

I hope to obtain rapid result in the work of improvement.
So I could work again on the NEW AGE...announced in the last room.

May be I will ask some questions to the explorers concerning the way to link SOMEWHERE and the NEW AGE.
And do you prefer to discover an Age without or with pictures before release?

For me definitely no, because I would not piece by piece from the cake. I would rather the whole pie at once. :D
