Fast way to build stairs?

I was just figuring out how to do stairs for UrU the easy way. I managed to measure the stairs in the hood. It works ok shift-d-ing and moving the necessary distance, but it's a hassle nonetheless. Anyone found another way or maybe a plugin to help out? Especially how to do it without having to create to many faces?

What about using the same method for making rungs on a ladder, would that work?

I remember seeing something about a stairs generator. Now if I could remember where... Alcugs maybe?

Remember, don't make the stairs themselves colliders. Make an invisible sloping plane over the stairs and make THAT a collider.

I have the zip files for Staircase_Builder and Ladder_builder (python scripts you drop into blender)... I'm sure I got them from Alcugs ages ago... posted on the forum...I've just been to see if I could find the post, but I can't (I stubled across it months ago).

Now, I'm pretty sure the guy who posted them didn't place any restictions on the files... but I'm not sure about the protocol for posting them here (they are NOT my work)...

So, if anyone wants them, I can email them to you (drop me a pm with your email address) ... or... if the mods think it's ok, I'll upload here.

It create stairs with colliders (as seperate objects) ...and is VERY usefull, especially for spiral staircase ... I used the stair one to make the spiral staircase in Paah'kwehNew ... it's neat little tool that saves HOURS of work making them manually in Blender...

EDIT: NO, it was COBBS, not Alcugs ... I found it... here's the link to the staircase builder ... (get the one at the bottom of the page, v4). The same guys also has a ladder builder. They are only really any use to build the mesh (obviously the properties and things have changed now ... but still they make the mesh building VERY easy... The way I did it was to make the staircase in a seperate blender file...then append it into your age file... .

Can't download... COBBS says I don't have permission.
I have created my account (again) weks ago and I'm still awaiting activation.

I used that plug in with an older version of blender, but when I tried to install it with this version of blender, it didn't work *shrug*

One other way is to use a array modifier. Create the first step or rung and then create copys of them. Adjust as needed. Someone posted about it around here some place.

Heres one I just made took me about 5 mins.

Array modifiers are simple and can easily make straight staircases, but you can do some more complicated things such as spiral stairs using DupliFrames. It's a bit long to explain in a forum post, so I wrote a tutorial on the wiki here. ;)

odd.... I have Blender 2.45... and the staircase builder script still works :? (although the ladder builder does NOT create a mesh :? )
