Ok, well, In the age I'm currently working on, I'm having a library... now, I have the bookshelves, but no books... I did a search for spine textures, but nothing came up, so would u guys mind helping me? I have a few old battered books, that I took a picture of, but it's not enough to put in my bookshelf. If any of you have any old battered books, would you mind taking a picture of them, so I can merge them with mine, until I have a whole bookshelf full? help would be greatly appriciated. and, just so you know what to look for, this is what I have so far:

Can you try taking the pic again, only in a well lit area without the flash? It would make a better pic.

Also, things like the Author's name need to be blured out when me or someone does it for you (copy right issues possibly)

Wouldn't it be more of a copyright infringement if you did blur out the name, than if you didn't?

well... most of these book's author's are probably long gone by now... I mean, if you have an old book of edgar allan poe stories that used to be your grandfather's or something like that... I don't think it'll be too much of a problem

I think it's more of a violation if your reproduce the contents of the book, rather than the outside cover.

Still, your flash on your camera is washing out the pics. Be better to get one that doesn't use the flash.

You know....you can use your pic just Like it is dude. Just resize the image down to something like 512 x 512 and save it as a png file.

Then, when you're building your books on your book shelf, just use this pic as the skin and UV map it to each spine.....I'll show you in a little bit. Check back on this thread later. I'll show pics.

I made a few cube meshes really quick, and then gave the some material. Next, I went to UV Mapping, selected all the faces of one cube, and Unwrapped it using Smart Projections. Then I selected just the face that would be the spine.
Next, in the UV Editor window (to the left) I loaded up your image, and moved the verticies of the faces around to cover just the spine of one book. Tah-Dah, you have a book spine.

Now, this is a normal way to do some complicated objects with textures. It's called Skinning. Your pic is considered the "Skin" and in this example is the Skin for several book spines. You can do each book that way if you want. Only thing you need to do with the pic is make sure it's not too big (nothing over 1024 x 1024).

ah, thx, that helps alot but, Do any of you have old books that you can take a picture of, like mine? cuz I only have enough to fill like, 1/8 of a shelf

Hmmmmm.....looking at most of my books........nah, almost all of them are paper backs! hehehe.

What you could do is like, on Monday, take a trip to your local library, see if they wouldn't mind you snapping some pics of their reference books.........that or just take 'em and run as fast as you can, you're young, librarian most likely is old....

Hmmmmm... Interesting Idea... O, and I'm actually adding books to my bookshelf now, and... is there any esier way to make the books, other than making each book individually? my bookshelf has like, five shelves
