Andy, yes, I've raised the spawn point but no luck, no matter how high I put it I always link in half way into the ground. :?

Still struggling with the transparency textures...

And the swim region remains white...

Okay, your swim region:

Make sure that the only logic properties it has is:

Name= type
value=region

NOthing else.

Also, make sure it's in the 2nd layer.
Last, you need to go ahead and do the swim region tutorial on the wiki so you can add the appropriate script to your ALCscript file.
Now, blender displays the swim region in white for me, in blender, not in the Age.

Transparancies: I know it's been suggested to you, but I don't know if you've done it:
select the object with the tranceparancy.
Then go into Materials.
Look in the tab called Links and Pipelines
towards the bottom of it, you should see a button called ZTransp. Click on it.
In the box next to it called Zoffs: you'll see zeros. Change it to 2.

Then try again and see if they look better. I did this to my transparancies and they look great now.

Your sinking in the ground. I don't think it's your spawn point.
You didn't answer my question: Your ground where you link in: what do you have the bounds set to?
Select your ground there and click on the logic properties (purple smiley).
Get rid of any logic strings that might be there. You don't need them anymore, unless you're trying to make your ground slippery and stuff now.
Make sure the Bounds button is selected, and the in the box next to it, make sure you select Static Triangle Mesh.

If that's okay, then the only thing I can think of is for you to delete your spawn point, and add a new one.

Ok, I finally have the tree transparency issue resolved. before the plug in I had the ambiance slider up to 0.80+ to get the trees to work the way I wanted them, but with the new plug in I actually have to go down to 0.25, which is the exact opposite. Took me awhile to figure out that it was backwards day :D

As for the ground/link in issue, my bounds are as you describe how they should be, no extra string properties. So I just deleted my old link in point and made a new one. worked like a charm.

Oh god, that swim region has more of the alcscript text file stuff? erm....maybe i'll leave that for another time...I've had more than my fill of that script stuff for now...

I think i'm calling what's working now a victory...I'll tackle the swim region tomorrow.

For those keeping score,

Working:

Tree transparency textures (YAY!)
Sound regions (woohoo!)
link in point above ground (Yes!!)
Collision (including invisible ones) (Yeah!)

Not working
Swim region (not swimming and completely white)

Thanks for all the help so far everyone!! And thanks for putting up with all my blundering so far

until I blunder more tomorrow...

Better get more used to it, as you're going to be using a lot of it for more and more stuff. If you want Journals that work and linking books, expect to do it.

It's not that hard once you get the hang of it, and once you get used to jumping to the wiki here and looking up what you might have forgotten.

Glad most of the stuff is working for you!

Alcscript has nothing to do with Python, so I think you'll be safe Kia.. ;)

Well then, what if we replace Alcscript words by Gahrohevtee or D'ni words? Would that make it easier for you ? ;)
