Newbie Question

I'm sorry if I picked the wrong forum for this question. Maybe you can direct me to the correct forum. After a layoff of about a year since I last used blender, I just reinstalled it, and I installed all the software that the instructions say you should install with it. To test the installation, I tried exporting the example, test age that I had downloaded from the internet but got the error message: "Python script error. Check console." So, then I tried to follow the instructions for creating a sample age from scratch, but near the beginning when I was supposed to select the file in the scripts window that would allow me to create a book, I got the same error message as above. How do I troubleshoot this? Thank you. Stan

There are some things we need to know before we can help you:

What version of Blender are you using?
What version of the plugin are you using?

Give us a brief summery of how you installed the plugin (that's normally what causes people problems, is they didn't install the plugin correctly).

Give us that info, and we should be able to help you out.

My blender version is 2.4.5. To install all the software that goes with it, I used the instructions elsewhere in this guild of writers website. First, I downloaded the four (I think I remember that number right) pieces of software that those instructions said I should install before PyPRP, and I installed them one at a time. Then, I followed the link on the instructions page that was titled something like "get the latest version of PyPrP," and I downloaded that. By the way, if it helps you help me, I have a small DOS looking window that opens when Blender does, and it currently reads in part: "Import error: no module named alcconfig."

Okay, to install the plugin, you need to take the files in the plugin and extract them from the zip file. Then you need to select all the files and copy them.
Then you must paste them into your blender script folder. Normally it would be located here:

c:\program files\blender foundation\blender\.blender\scripts

Note that there is a .blender folder, that period is suppose to be there, and blender should have made the file when you installed.

Once you've pasted the plugin files into that folder, start Blender up.

Pick one of the windows and click on the menu button, and change it to the fat looking little "i" for User Preferences

You should see in one of your windows just like the pic I'm showing.

Look at the button at the bottom, you want to click on the one that says File Paths. When you do, your window should change to this:

Look for the box that says Python, their will be a little button in that box that looks like hands praying.
Click on it, and a window will turn into a directory tree. Go to the folder where you pasted all those plugin files. and then click on the big Select Folder button.

Last, in that same little box that says Python, you should see a button that looks like a little note. Click on it once.

Once you have done all that, close down Blender, and then restart it.

Blender now knows all about the Plugin, and you should be able to import and export Ages just fine, as long as you follow the other tutorials on our Wiki here.
