stupid question: skewed UV map

Postby D'Lanor » Mon Mar 10, 2008 12:10 pm

Somehow the UV map for my skydome got skewed. How do I correct this? I can select the displaced part and drag it to the left but that only makes the skewing worse. This is probably very simple. Maybe too simple to be found in the tutorials I searched. :?

Not sure why it moved those faces over there when you unwrapped, as it seemed to do a good job.
Can you do this? :

Select just those faces and move them over? Can't remember if they act attatched to the other points or not off the top of my head.

Yes they do. I can't figure out how to cut them loose like we do with meshes.

To move only those three faces, first deselect all the faces in the 3-D view (the UV Face Select view, not the UV/Image Editor). Then select only those three faces in the 3-D view. Now you can move them in the UV/Image Editor without affecting the adjacent faces.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

Though, it's not really neccesary to move them.
The dome texture repeats by default, so relatively speaking, those faces are just where they're supposed to be on the texture..

Oh hey, that's right! D'Lanor, you'd be messing yourself up possibly if you move them. They are landing right where they need to be actually, as our picture tiles, even though you don't see it here.

Yes, that actually made it look worse. I guess the slight distortion at the top of the dome I tried to remove is normal then...

At least I learned something new. ;)

yeah that small distortion on the top of the dome is normal. It's caused by the single vertex tat makes up the top of the dome.

Luckily almost nobody looks 90 degrees up in an age :)
