Enviormental Mapping

Postby andylegate » Sun Mar 16, 2008 6:28 am

Hey guys, got a question here. Learning how to do some enviormental mapping yesterday, I was trying to get reflections for my pool in Camp Bravo to work.
Now, I can't render in Blender this Age, as it comes out all wrong. So I went in game and took screen shots, and made my own map.
However, when it was all said and done, I had what looked like reflections, etc, etc, on the water. But it looked like they were in the wrong place!

Now I followed the tutorial over on Alcugs, and it says if you make your own map, you need to put your screen shots in this order:

Code: Select all
+------+------+------+
| Left |Bottom|Right |
+------+------+------+
| Top  | Front| Back |
+------+------+------+

Which I did, but only the ones marked Left, and Back looked right, all the other looked out of place. For example Bottom was at the Back and Front seemed at the top!
Did the mapping of the image become different at some point?

So presumably it goes: left, back, right, front, top, bottom.

But it's the pelvic thrust... :D

Well after looking over the Blender tutorial, they show the map of the image different than what is in the Alcugs tutorila.

Again, here is what Alcugs says to do:

Code: Select all
    +------+------+------+
    | Left |Bottom|Right |
    +------+------+------+
    | Top  | Front| Back |
    +------+------+------+

And here is what the map in the Blender tutorial shows:

Code: Select all
Left turn 90 degrees clockwise |   Bottom                          |   Right turned 90 degrees ccwise

Front                                      | Back turned upside down  | Top

I'm redoing my pics so that they lay out this way and see what happens.

EDIT: still didn't look right, so I let Blender do a render for the map. It lays it out different from both the Alcugs and the Blender tutorials. It laid it out like this:

Code: Select all
    +------+------+------+
    | Left |Back|Right |
    +------+------+------+
    | Bottom  | Top| Front |
    +------+------+------+
