Expanding Jennifer's Classroom?

First of all, I want to congratulate Jennifer for producing such a successful topic! People with little to no modeling experience are churning out amazing 3-D models, paving the way towards age creation. Congratulations to the students for your hard work and perserverence, and kudos to Jennifer for patiently addressing their issues and questions!

I don't want to ruin a good thing by messing with it, so if the current set up is working for everyone, then just leave it as is. But as more lessons are added, and as more people decide to join the classroom, I was wondering whether a single forum topic will continue to meet these needs.

Given that the topic contains many valuable individual lessons, I was wondering whether it would serve its purpose better if it were in separate topics. I bring this up because of Ehren's post about not knowing how to ask a question for a previous lesson. Perhaps each lesson could be placed in a separate topic, under the Tutorials subforum of this Builders forum? And in order to keep them from getting lost as other tutorials are posted there, perhaps they could be "stickied"?

Jennifer: do you have any suggestions?

Due to Jennifer's success with this, and with the points that Robert just pointed out, AND due to the fact that I've been getting emails from people who want to learn how to do Age Creation, but are confused about Blender, I point them to her Class room, but they were confused too by now as her thread has gotten so large. :D

Why not make Jennifer's Classroom into a sub-forum, and then the lessons can be broken up into different threads? That way, as Robert suggested, people can ask their questions about that lesson, and not be afraid or confused that they are messing with the "current" lesson.

I'm all for it. Jennifer has done outstanding work! And it's helped a LOT of people. "applause!"

I have to agree with Andy on this.

Not everyone learns Blender in the same way but Jen has made a huge difference in getting people excited about modelling and her lessons are very helpful.

The new forum could just be simply called "Classroom"

Oh yeah, and each lesson could be a different thread? So anyone could post about any of them without interupting the later lessons and people on later lessons don't have to read through questions on basic things they already know. I think that would be a good idea

oooo yes please. I have got quite far with JP's classroom but I am hungry for more. Especially how to make objects without using the premade objects that we are given. I have being trying to make New Zealand Flax like leaves with twists and turn and I am getting nowhere fast lol. I don't expect this straigt away but just giving ideas. Manipulating cones aswell.

Agree with the above. If it really needs to be run through the proposal system; I think we've got enough supporters.

this is a great idea ... the Classroom symbolises what this forum is all about ... learning & sharing our knowledge ... it's big YES from me!

Good suggestion, teedyo! I'd imagine it would have the following choices to vote on:

  • Leave the forum topic as is
  • Move each lesson to a separate topic under Builders > Tutorials
  • Create a Classroom subforum under Builders and move each lesson to a separate topic there
But before I put it up there, I want to make sure it is OK with Jennifer to make such a proposal, and it would be great to hear from the moderators to see if they're willing to move the topics and/or create the forum.

How about (also) putting Jennifers lessons on the wiki?

You mean, have a Wiki page for the lesson itself, and have a corresponding forum topic for questions/troubleshooting? There could be a link on the Wiki page to the topic, so that people taking the lesson can go right to the correct topic. Sounds good!

If this option is chosen, would someone volunteer to do the Wiki work? Given that Jennifer's going through exams at the moment, I'm sure she could use some help with this transformation.
