Issue with a Projection Layer Lamp

Postby Paradox » Wed Jun 11, 2008 8:23 pm

I'm hoping that someone other than myself and Nadnerb has tried playing with these.

I added a white lamp to my Pahts Shell, and attached a grid pattern texture to it. I export it, and do some manual editing myself with a variety of custom tools. I drop it into Uru and it works fine.

I should mention that I'm running Ubuntu Linux (Hardy Heron) and that Uru is running in wine.

I submitted my shell to the maintainers for checking. None of them could see the grid texture. I booted Vista, loaded my own copy of Uru in Windows, and the grid isn't there.

I've triple checked the objects and references, all of them are accurate. Cyan's projection lamps seem to work fine in both Linux and Windows for me, so I'm at a complete loss here. Why on earth does it work in Linux, and not on Windows?! Uru is a Windows application, so it makes no sense. I've also checked everything enough to be sure that it's not an issue from exporting on Linux.

Anyone have any ideas? :?

Assuming iths the same as here http://www.guildofmaintainers.org/Forum ... f=11&t=349
I don't see a white lamp

I did notice that your footstep sound region isn't large enough as there is places where you can't hear the footsteps

But an idea as to why we can't see it, double check your soft volumes, and AlcScript (i'm gonna guess that you have) or better yet post it here

I havn't yet played with projection lights, so its all guess work for me

The footstep issue is actually a bug in Pahts that will be fixed in version 1. The footstep regions in the shell are fine, but they are being overridden by extra ones in the city itself.

The softvolume is fine, since the other 3 lamps work with no issues.

Then its the footstep sound looks just like two of my bugs, awaiting fix for Pahts too.

I tried turning the gamma up and down as well just in case the issue was there, it wasn't.

I know this could sound silly, but I do actually make this same mistake over and over, doh, putting in the page_num reference for your lamp and projection plane.

or is this another case of the shadebuff causing strife, I dunno.

I'm still working on my shell, from time to time, like tonight, where I have a problem with unwrapping all faces to the same orientation and also line up with adjacent faces, i'm still looking for a solution :(

I hope you'll find a way Paradox, it will probably be something simple.

I have not had a reason to use this feature in Zephyr Cove, but a while ago, when I was trying to re-do Night Camp Bravo, I was going to try and use this feature to give the chain link fence shadows.

However the one area I tried failed to work for me. It was not there after I exported and linked in. I'm using Windows XP.

I didn't bring it up over here due to all the problems I was having with the Age because I tried to use the Wizards to convert it, so ended up scraping it. I had thought at the time the reason the feature wasn't working was due to my other problems, but maybe not after what you just said Dox.

Wish I could be more help, but I haven't even opened up Blender in 4 days now due to all the work here at home I'm going through.

It's not so much a Blender issue as a Plasma or PRP issue.

The file that work on Linux does not work on Windows. The same, identical file in the same, identical folder.

*gives into Plasma-induced insanity*

Could this be a difference with your video drivers?

Have you tried compiling the shell on an actual Windows machine?

That it is the same age files does suggest that we are dealing with a video driver/-framework issue -- I wonder how it differs between different DirectX versions...

On another note: maybe we have a lead on why some things works for the devs and nobody else... :9

That's what I was going to suggest too. At worst you can send me and see if I can export it.
