ValueError: face has no texture value

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

ValueError: face has no texture value

Postby Dakro » Fri Jul 04, 2008 11:19 am

Trying to export this age and this keeps popping up on the python window.

Says:
[Draw Interface Sphere]
[Material Material.071]
[Layer Material.071-Tex.070]
-> Using default first UV map
[MipMap Skydomestarry.png]

So that means the one and only sphere in my age is the problem right? Because everything in my age HAS a texture.

:?: Where is the error? AFAIK what you are showing is nothing to worry about. My age does that at every object and exports fine.

Probably because you didn't specify a UVMap in the Material settings. Nothing to worry about unless you have multiple UVMaps per object.

How do I do that?

You may need to view the image separate from this topic if it's cut off.

That figures, I never use that field. Which brings me to the next question: Can it have any name or does it have to refer to the name of an existing UV map?

I did not understand this for a long time, but I finally do. (I think) It refers to an existing Uv map. When you UV map a mesh, go to the editing panel (F7) There you will see a button called UV Texture. Press new and give it a name. That's the name you enter in Map Input. If you give the same mesh a new Uv that have a different sort of mapping, you need to do the same again. I hope this answer your question.
Please someone, tell if I was wrong.

Tinuvel is correct. It took me awhile to grasp that concept also. Blender isn't exactly "look at it and figure it out" friendly.

Something to note here. Imagine the following scenario:

I have two cubes. Cube1 and Cube2. They use the same material in Blender.

The Material has 2 Textures attached.

Cube1 has UVMaps "Base" and "Detail". Cube2 has 1 UVMap named "Base".

In the material settings, Texture1 is mapped to UVMap "Base". Texture2 is mapped to UVMap "Detail".

There is a problem (but PyPRP won't give you any error or warnings about it): UVMap Detail does not exist on Cube2, but I have told a texture to use it.

Uru will produce an amazing effect (remapping the texture every frame by using random bytes of memory as coordinates) before crashing.

Make sure that you verify all of your material, texture, and UV links before exporting!

Hehe, that's right folks, always verify your uvmaps, or you'll get some amazing plasma glitchy awesomeness. :D

At one point I was thinking of writing some sort of script that would perform a plasma sanity check on these references, but never really saw the need for it, since the results are pretty easy to spot anyway. (honestly, I'm surprised that plasma will just keep running at all while eating itself like this)
