I have a lot of chains in my age, but the problem is they have so many faces it lags the crap out of my age, is there anyway to reduce the number of faces other than completely remodeling it?

Okay... maybe not what you want to hear, but don't use models for that. Personally I would use tto crossed planes each with an image of a chain, so they match up nicely. Have a look at the spiky plant in Gira, that hangs from the path above the linkinpoint. The same trick is used there.
The chains don't look like something he player has to look at, only to experience them being there. Personally I don't think that would justify the number of needed face.

Remember the trick is to use the lowest possible poly or face count possible to get the desired effect, in this case if its some chains that will be seen at a distance, planes will do perfectly.
Also for curved surfaces you can usually get away with toggling the "Set Smooth" button.
If you have gone through the trouble of modelling something but don't want to change the look of it, just use Blender to take a snapshop of it and use that as a texture on a plane or low poly surface
