Recently I noticed that most of us just leave our homebound (or elsewhere) books, just lying around in our ages,
subject to weather, wind and wild animals, not to mention all kinds of microbes.
Also, there is always the danger of an unscrupulous individual changing the book, making the linking book unusable

To this end, I developed a new type of linking book and book holder, inspired by the much more durable stones the Bahro use, called the DuraBook

Basically, it is a durable aluminum shell, with an unbound linking book inside.
The linking panel of the book is not exposed, but is covered by an new type of organic and conductive plastic that is linking-permeable.
(Allowing link-out by touching the panel, but still protecting the panel against damage.)
An added benefit of the plastic cover is that it only allows larger creatures to link, protecting the target age from infestation by insects and other small creatures that accidentally land on or touch the linking panel.

More advanced versions include:
DuraBook Secure: with an added thumbprint locking mechanism, only you can access the book inside.
DuraBook EasyLink: No need to bring pen and ink with you to make a linking book anymore: just go to the target Age and site, pull out a small protective plastic, slam the stamp-button, and presto! The internal stamp-and-ink system will stamp the special symbol onto the page inside, activating the linking book onto that target spot.

Just made up the basic model today, if anyone is interested in the model and its backstory , I'll finish it up, and post it publicly.

I like it and had planned on incorporating something similar to this in my bahrehltahntee tso ahrotahntee storyline; however, I have the following concerns:

You state that the linking book has no cover, but the book may not function IC'ly without a cover. I'm not sure what the official word from RAWA is on this.

The linking-permeable plastic seems like a stretch IC'ly. Could a people who have been studying a lost civilization for a decade really come up with something so amazing?

I'm not trying to ruin your concept, I'm just trying to think MORE-compatible here. I do have an idea that would solve both these issues:

Give the casing a cover which contains the the book's cover. Maybe it automatically closes when it senses that nobody is standing in front of the linking book. This way, no undesirables can get in, and the book gets to keep its cover.

The cover thing needs to be fixed or explained, but the heat-sensitive membrane is fine. That technology exists and is available right now.

If the film cover it is organic then it too will link when it touches the panel as a link is triggered by organic material/cells.

Do gloves link with you because it links on itself, and passes the linking on to you, or because it lets the linking pass through to you, and follows you with the one-step rule?

I'm pretty sure certain gloves allow Linking because they allow heat to pass through. At least, that's how I've always thought of it.

Hehe, fun concept. Don't know if I'd trust my life to the design and actually _link_ though on of those things though.

You'd have to ask Rawa about that, he's the one who set the rules.

What an excellent idea Trylon! I've thought about what happens when the weather gets rough and so on. Was thinking of building small shelters upon my bookstands, but this is MUCH better!!
I would sure like a couple of those in my age - once I get the books to work that is
