can't seem to get my texture to go on my plane. I'm following Jennifer's classroom. It's lesson 9 on page 11, third post down. I can get the texture to show up in the window, but it won't go on the plane. Any suggestions?

ooo......

All sorts of reasons pop into my mind:

Do you have your 3D window set for Textures? Or is it set for Shades, Wireframe, etc, etc.

Is the Plane facing downwards and it's not two sided? If so, you won't see the texture, you see right through it. Navigate your 3D Window around and look at the other side of the Plane.

What kind of texture did you use?

Did you UV Map the texture to the plane? If not, you won't see it until you do.

Take a look at my basic texturing tutorial over at the Maintainers Guidl:

Yowza, that's one killer tutorial Andy! :)
You should know, Lynnutte, that my tutorials are getting out-of-date; they're like two version of Blender old now. I'm hoping to get them upgraded over Christmas break, but till then use them with a grain of salt. :geek:

Thanks Jen!

I try to make my tutorials more user friendly as it were, not to usurp anyone else's tutorials, but to help spread the info, and to try to put it into terms that others might understand better (insert the thingy into the whatchyamacallit).

I'm thinking of doing some video tutorials too, just to see if they help better.

Hey, I think the more tutorials the better! Hehe, it usually takes me about three different tutorials to understand a new subject: "Drat, person A didn't explain this clearly!...Hm, okay, what does person B say? Okay, that sorta clears it up, only now I don't understand this part here because I haven't done any of B's other tutorials yet. Oh hey look, person C has a great looking tutorial on that exact subject!"

I'd recommend those for sure. Some of the most confusing instructions make total sense when you're actually seeing them being carried out. :) I particularly like your tutorial because it has lots of pictures! :D

Thank you both. I can now get textures on all the basic shapes, but I can't get the repeats to work. I'm trying to get them right on a cylinder. I have tried changing the numbers, but it changes nothing on the object. What am I doing wrong?

If you are using Blender 2.48 (the latest one ... which you should ... ;) ) then you can see it if you check the setting ...

My blender says 248.1 at the top. Everytime I use the Blender GLSL Materials button, blender shuts down. Maybe my computer doesn't like it.

Not all computers can use this setting unfortunately. Mine for instance gives me an error message that my video card is not supported for GLSL.

The repeat numbers in the materials panel are for the materials and few things there will show up before you render an image, start the game engine, or export to URU and visit the age. To map a texture onto an object, so that it tiles in the 3D view; rescale the UV map in the UV/Image editor. If you have a simple rectangle, which has your texture pasted fully onto it, corner to corner and want it to repeat twice in both X and Y directions, select all points in the UV/image editor and scale to twice the size (Press 'S' and then "2" + return).
