Importing Question

Postby Tyion » Sun Apr 05, 2009 12:12 pm

I am trying to import a Maya OBJ File into blender, but when I import it, all of the mesh is well, one mesh. So Question, Can you import a mesh without it combining every single peice?

Does that make sense?

Edit- and why I posted this in General Chat, I don't know. oye!

Have you tried the "Separate Objects by OBJ: Object" button? Sounds like that would do the job.
(And, terminology-wise: I think you'd say "Can you import multiple objects as individual meshes?" rather than "Can you import a mesh without it combining every single peice?")

I think you are trying to export/import multiple objects as seperate meshes (objects) ... yes?

If so, the .nif plugin is probably the way to go (it also imports the UVmapping as well).

Get the exporter for Maya and the Blender Importer from HERE

Select all the objects you want to export from Maya (multiple objects/meshes selected) ... then Export (as a .nif) .... then import the single .nif file into Blender ...and voila! ... all your meshes/objects will appear in Blender (as seperate meshes/objects ... with their UVmaps in tact).

(this is how Oneironaut and I managed to get his Max3D stuff into Blender ... using the Max3d .nif exporter plugin & the Blender importer script. The whole Age was exported as a single /nif file and imported into Blender ... and all the objects retained their names, uvmaps etc., ... saved a TON of time/work :) )

oh...and could a moderator please move this to the "Builders" section ...
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...
