Interesting Face Counts!!!

Ok now how is this possible?

I model an item in 3DS Max and it has only 26,824 faces. I export the model as an .obj file and then import into blender. Upon import the object now has over 600,000 faces, according to blender.

So why is there that big a discrepancy???

Edit: I figured it out, was a stupid mistake on my end.

I had forgotten about a second object in the scene. An object that was to be tossed out, and for some reason didn't.
