"Modders Resources" - Resources for your Ages.

Ahoy all,

I felt it might be a good idea to separate this from my Kaelis' Pub Office topic, in Tips and Showcase, so.. lets do it this way.

I'm calling these "Modders Resources" as that's the term I'm used to, from the Bethesda-game-modding-communities.

Essentially, when you're "modding" Uru, (making Ages, making locations, or altering existing stuff, etc), feel free to use this stuff, for whatever you want.

For most of this stuff, it's really only "Acceptable" to use within Uru. Some of the stuff I'll also have available for non-uru stuff under the GNU GPL (version 3 or later) (and perhaps some other licenses, if asked nicely, as these ones will be my work entirely.). Some, I won't, as they're edits, and I don't have the rights to license under the GNU GPL, or any other license.

For starters, this Blue/Green D'ni lamp texture. Inspired by part of a GreatZero texture, and created by editing a general "D'ni" texture. (islm (ISLandMain), technically ae'gura, but, used in many other places, too). 512x512

I'll be posting more here soon. =)

EDIT: some, I'll ask for credit, some not. The blue/green d'ni lamp texture, is one I'll not be asking for "credit", for.

It really is stunning. Icy, cold, calm. I can see it fitting easily into an Ae'guran office or perhaps a winter garden. Funny thing, you associate the lamps with D'ni, but I've always thought of them as a garden thing. The twisting-pillared gazebos in Eder Kemo, specifically. ;) Nonetheless, very well done!

Thanks everyone!

@Tsahl: I refer to it as "D'ni" due to the original file's prefix. =) it usually goes by "islmbaselamp" which stands for "Island Main Base Lamp" Island Main being Ae'gura, I guess. =)

When I get home, and can upload stuff, I'll be uploading my book model. =)

EDIT: if you're curious as to the inspiration for the lamp texture, I was inspired by this Great Zero texture: http://guildofartisans.org/dnistuff/dni ... -0-hsm.png
I liked the little lamp in the middle, but, its too tiny to be of use for anything: So, I made the texture using the islmbaselamp texture that is 512x512, through several layers of recolouring and blending, etc. I may've made it more difficult than it had to be, but, hey, it was worth it, I think. =)

This looks awesome.
But as well as really cool stuff like this, but maybe a few words on how you created it so we could create something which is similar, but with our own design/look. Is this a Photoshop image? Maybe have the .psd file for download. I guess the problem with having a repositry of objects and 'standard' textures, is there is a risk of everyone's Ages looking exactly like everyone else's. Whilst I think this is totally amazing pic, I wouldn't want to cut-and-paste it into my Age because it will appear again in someone else's Age, and my Age has to be unique and have its own look and design.

What I like is the dirt and grime, as anything the D'ni made has to look dirty and grimy. Is this a grundge brush? Or did you use something else?

Keep up the fab work!!

Well, as mentioned above, I used a Cyan texture as a base. "islmbaselamp". I do have an .xcf file, as I used gimp, due to my fondness for its method of layer blending (yes, I am aware that photoshop does that too, just gimp has some different blending types, and there's some difference in the way the others work)

Also, you shouldn't worry about others using the same texture, Cyan did that /all/ the time. Many of their textures are used over and over and over in many different ages. There's only a couple of Ages by Cyan that mostly unique textures. <g>

Interesting side note regarding reuse of textures/meshes, Delin is a good example of this. most of the "Age"'s terrain is part of Kemo, and a bunch of the textures come from the Crowthistle ages. =) Yet, it doesn't look overly like either. It has similarities to Kemo, yes, but that's not because of random objects. But, its identifiably a "different age" =)

Kaelis, I hope you mean for this to be an open thread. If not, sorry.

This is made from a free texture from cgtextures.com. I played with the colors a bit, and tried to make it look old.

@Zuri: Definitely open to other submissions. =)

Didn't get the chance last night to do the fixes I intended to the book, so, I'll have to get to that, soon. =)

Sorry this post is so, well, content-free, I'm in the middle of crazy stuff O-o

Friendly reminder:

Thanks to efforts and resources provided by Tachtzusamm and Chakal, we do have a repository for the sharing of resources (3D models and audio, as well as textures) at http://www.texturu.org.

One might, of course, want to check one's licences and such, before uploading something based on work by others. Texturu offers two different licenses, which one might use. Read about them under the Welcome/Licence_models header.

EDIT: Finished the last sentence.. :P

The licensing issue is precisely why I'm not using texturu.org =)

While it, in and of itself is a useful resource, and while it is very handy for open-source-like content, it is not necessarily conducive to "modders resources" =)
