Well here's what we got so far, although teaching myself 3DS max with the various tutorials has been a lot trial, error, crash, and freeze things seem to be coming along rather well.
The Dice are about 3 foot tall and the board is in proportion. I had a bit of trouble with the UVmap of the dice so I use some lighting effect I stumbled on. I have been threw all the simple setting under components manager and have not found one good enough to give them a good roll when you push them, so Im gonna hafta use some proxy terrain just high enough to tilt the dice and give them a good roll unless I can come up with something else

:D

Well its just about finished just a few more details, the dice are hollow so you can see right threw the little dots to the floor (Couldnt figure out how to texture them right) although the problem I had at first was since the one has the most mass the dice would land on six most of the time cuz its on the opposite side of one ( I think I stumbled on how to make loaded dice with this plug it (-: ) So I used "use alternate shape" under simple to balance them out, the ridges worked out pretty good and gives the dice a good roll with out any problems walking over them. Im putting them every where excepted the board so the checkers won't act weird wene you move them, the dice will not roll on the board they just slide around . I hope to finish the details soon and have it up before long, then Im gonna try to tackle checkers I have a few ideas on how to king the checker but I have not tried it out yet

only one problem....................the dice keep going threw the proxy terrain that im using as the wall. Does any one have any idea as to how I can prevent this

other then that all I hafta do is texture the board and dice

the only solution I could think of concerning the dice going threw the wall

Thanks go's to Paradox for his helpful hints on texturing the board and all the tutorials from both the Writers and the Maintainers Both Chess and Backgammon came better then expected.
And Thank http://www.crazy3dsmax.com/ for the chess set it was a real time saver

Now all I need to do is find some time to learn how to play Backgammon :D
