Hi guys,
I need some input from you 3ds Max users--it's coming close to time to put out "super testing" builds of the CWE PlasmaMAX. I'd like to know what version of 3ds Max is your favorite/which version you want to see PlasmaMAX work in. The versions are listed based on SDK compatibility (ie the plugin I built for 3ds Max 8 will work with versions 6 and 7 as well). Currently, I can build the plugin for 3ds Max 2011 and 3ds Max 8. If you want to see another version get built by my build system, then make sure you vote for it!

I had an issue with 2012 on 64-bit windows 7 - it installed the 64-bit version and I didn't notice a way to get a 32-bit version installed (admittedly I didn't spend a huge amount of time on it). PlasmaMax does not work in 64-bit Max versions. If you're getting max from their educational program, they do still have 2011 available. Hopefully it allows selecting 32-bit (but I haven't tested it yet)

I have to choose 6-8 because thats the only versions i have access to Specificaly 7.00 and 8.00 and this access is transitory that is I don't have the copy at home (I dare say I could get cracked versions but thats illegal).
The education option is not viable but I do have a trial copy and I could build a sacrificial PC install the copy do the work extract the file format the hard drive rebuild Windows and install again from a ghost image.
This also puts me closer to the version 7 option that Cyan appear to prefer.
This is a rather flaky option I'd rather keep using Blender.

No plugin for 64 bit? Crap. Makes all the effort pretty useless.

We'll get it working eventually, but Cyan's code is very broken at 64-bit currently. For this first release, it'll have to be 32-bit on ly.

Difficult decision. I say ... build whatever you can
I take part in the Education Program and have 2012 64bit but that doesn't seem to be an option at the moment. So I'll have to use my old PC with Max 7.

installing the 64bits versions always install the 32bit as well if I'm not mistaken. or do you mean that the plugin does not exist for the 2012 version yet ?
I have max 2011 and hope to get back to age building some time this summer, time to dig up that old age I started in max 7 !

I didn't see a 32-bit launcher in the start menu. It's possible they gave up on that, figuring all the major plugins are 64-bit at this point. Also possilbe I just missed something. Like I said, I haven't put a huge amount of effort into sorting it out just yet.

I just grabbed 3ds Max 2012 off of Autodesk Education last night, I'll take a look at it eventually. Unfortunately, my 1,200 page a la carte edition Biology book is demanding to be read (what a pain). Stay tuned for the next episode of PlasmaMAX: Hax Online.

I feel with you Tsar. Campbell and Reece are always a good read. Luckily I've already finished my biology studies
