Work in Blender (2.49 + 2.5x) feeling a bit like CAD

Shorah.

Did you ever wish you could do measurement of angles or distances? Or draw a correctly sized sketch of an object prior before creating a real object? Or just have a nice ruler?
Then have a look at this extension script:

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Exten ... CAD/Ruler2

I found this by random, tested it, and I was really impressed. It's not just a ruler, but a tool with a great potential. Really handy.
Be sure to read the chapter Installation carefully; it's a bit unusual to install, but it works.
And make sure to have a closer look to the Usage chapter, and try out what the shortcuts do. Most of the keys only work in the measurement mode (Shift+R), but I assume you will be impressed too.

Note 1: The tool was written with comments in japanese language, so don't feel confused with the message "Load Ruler" gives on start.
Note 2: There is still a small bug; it reports "index out of range" continuously in the console - but it seems this does not harm.

Have fun 8-)

UPDATE:
Seems porting this nice tools for the new Blender version has already begun.
Someone (filiciss) made a build with it for 2.56a:
http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds ... ow&id=1536 (Win64)
http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds ... ow&id=1650 (Win32)
(If you want to have a look at it. Again many improvements.)
But hurry - these old graphicall pages will be kept only a few weeks, after that these links will be invalid, because graphicall switched to a new design and server.

Does not work directly in 2.57 yet, because the API seems to be changed a bit since 2.56, but I hope it will be integrated later.

That looks like a pretty useful plug-in; I'll give it a try this week end.
As you probably know Blender includes a function to display edge length and angles, but it's a bit limited; and a bit clumsy to use.

Be sure to read the chapter Installation carefully; it's a bit unusual to install, but it works.

The readme.txt is japanese poorly translated by some software; it is quite entertaining to read.

very useful tool! I am constantly using meshes to measure in blender and it can be a real pain.
