Turtle Isle ....Performance update!

Finally I can announce a major performance update for TurtleIsle.

On lower end systems the framerate will be about 7 to 10 times higher then before.
What has been done?

1) The reflection of the moving sky in the water (waveset) is now static.
The dynamic reflection from before was really a showstopper.
2) Many hundreds of colliders have been made.
Only the bottom does still have triangle mesh detection, so the freedom of movement in the age is stiil there.
3) Visregions!
Finally they are in the age
The age is divided in 8 Visregions.
Without the Visregiontool made by Tachzusamm this would have been an unhuman task to do.
4) Shadings
Near all objects have been made shadeless to avoid dynamic lightning.
In a few cases i left it in, because i neede a more natural look.
Instead of the dynamics, i lit many objects up with some emitting and added a bit of vertexpainting.

This new version will probably only be available on the "Deep Island Shard" .
Watch for the announcement of the shard update from Diafero.

I like to have some feedback of your experience with Turtle Isle now it is updated to version 1.1.

So - for those of us who DO NOT wish to visit the online Shards - We will be prohibited from seeing your update.....

Wam,
You know there are performance problems.
My only possibility to know if they still exist, is in a worst case situation, which is the online situation.
May be i have to improve the age even more, then another update will follow.
Once I know the behavior is good enough then i will make an offline download available.
But i don't want to have many different off line versions kicking around.
I hope you understand this.

Sorry, I do understand- I was just disapointed...

Living where I do I have only one true enjoyment and that is playing URU. (if you wish to know where I live look at the wall behind my Avatar)..

What would be the differences between an online version and an offline version?
It seems to me all Ages always worked fine on both environments.

You can of course wait for some more feedback after I installed it (it's currently uploading) to make sure it really gains enough performance and makes no trouble on more systems. So to say, using the Shard for testing and waiting for release quality before putting it out there for offline usage. I will definitely test it on my laptop - and hope it's now playable there as well :) .

However, I think you can expect the performance to be mostly the same - of course it will drop if many people are in the age and you have shadows enabled, as it does for every age. But besides, the graphics part of the engine is totally unaffected of online vs. offline. And even if more improvement might be possible, you made such a large step forwards that justifies making a full new release.

Okay, it's online! And it's playable on my laptop, hoooray :-)

Btw, it would be totally awesome if you could create a book cover for this age. I think it well deserves standing out in the Shelf... I wrote some docs for doing this.
