Odema link crash

Postby Sirius » Sat Mar 09, 2013 2:48 pm

Hey, I wanted to have a walk in Odema (I remembered it was looking quite good). So, I downloaded it with Drizzle... but when I linked there Uru crashed.
So, I've looked in the forums about this, and found Ages like Odema crash on some computers (the first time I played it was on another PC). I also found an old post from Hoikas, telling it might be a material-related bug.

I then tried fixing it (I really don't have anything better to do...)
I managed to link there after modifying the material for the main land, but when reverting the changes (i.e: delete all files and copy files downloaded from Drizzle), I noticed the bug didn't occur anymore

After deleting the save file of the Age, I crashed again with the clean version.
So... I tried re-modifying the file (basically, remove a layer and reapply it).
And I was able to link there again.

It seems saving the file with PrpShop removed the error. I tried doing a -prpdiff with Drizzle, but a lot of objects were changed (lights, sounds, ...).
As far as I can tell, in-game it's the same.

So, for those who also crashed when linking there, you might want to try and replace the file in your Uru DAT folder, then open Odema.sum in PlasmaShop and click re-sum.

This is the absolute awesomeness, thank you Sirius, you're a genius ... :P

When I was taking the shots for the Pdf ages lists I was really hurrying to get my pictures for this one ...
At first I thought I wouldn't make it, but as I found this age so very beautiful too I was hurrying and
taking my shots very quickly just before being sent to my desktop or ending up with a black screen
and an error message lol ...

Now I can wander about peacefully and enjoy the waterfall, and I could even risk to enter the hut
with fly mode, it has a solid ground in there, and you'll find a nice bookstand with a not yet activated
linking book on the back porch ... What a relief to be able to move there freely ... :D

Merci Sirius :D

Could it be possible if you have time to repair Eder Licinius? This age is a real pain in ... you know  I can merely go in the fountain area this is when I can get to that point. Sometimes the age "feels" I'm going there and crash me before just to prevent ;)

EDIT:

DO NOT turn and look at the shroom hut when inside Odema. You can run and climb freely everywhere except if you turn and face the shroom hut, the "main branch" will not like it  I crashed twice in 1 min...

Good to hear !
Yeah, I also crashed once or twice when looking around, but it didn't occur the last times I linked there...

I could try to repair Eder Licinius, but I've never fully explored the Age because I never had more than 10 FPS
Performances should be better with my new PC...

Since these Ages are quite old, I think the bug is caused by former versions of PyPRP... Let's hope they are all as easy to fix.

Ok, so I still have as many lags in Licinius. I could barely go down to the pool.
However, I didn't crash during the whole time I was there...
I re-saved the two Age files, but I didn't notice any difference.

Here are the two files. Don't forget to re-sum the sum...

If you want to try fixing other Ages with this same method, it's quite simple:
- dowload PrpShop if you don't have it (usually included in PlasmaShop 3)
- open the .prp files in your DAT folder, and simply save them. This is not needed for the files BuiltIn and Textures.
- open the Age .sum in PlasmaShop, and re-sum it.

Thanks again! :D

For the first time ever, I was not only able to move everywhere in Eder Licinius, I was able to do it without wobbling and without crashing. It seems to me that the age's textures are even improve a little bit. Maybe because I'm not wobbling anymore, it helps

I went quite easily in this other age only reachable from Eder Licinius, here's a picture:

I didn't have problems with Eder Licinius before, and with your new prp file I had no
problems either, Sirius, but I couldn't swim anymore ... you're walking right into the
water and find yourself under the water, walking, and when I walked out of it I crashed
with a stack dump ... :?

I've been downloading the original files again with Drizzle and I could swim again and
I still have no problems to walk easily through the age ... I was even flying to the castle
to see how far it was developed to be implemented in case the tram could move us over
there ... I've been reading Andy's journal by the hut again and I wonder if our GPNMilano
alias Chloe intends to further develop this beautiful age ... Yeah, and the 'Hood Office' is
just as beautiful ... :D

Yeah, I think this is related to HSPlasma (the library PrpShop uses). I had the same issue yesterday in Zephyr Cove and Campbravo - I didn't require to re-save the files, but I did modify them...

You know these horrible collision issues in Fan-Ages, which makes climbing a simple stair an epic challenge ? And when you run-jump against a wall, and you bounce back in a weird way ? These are now fixed in newer versions of PyPRP, but it still sucks in Ages exported prior to the release of the new version.
I wrote a Python script to fix these issues, which uses HSPlasma... the same code to edit/save PRPs ! I applied the modifications to both Ages before linking there, and it broke both swimregions. I didn't crash, though.

Content de l'apprendre !
Theorically, the textures and models should remain the same. Most of the Age should - except for the swimregions... :?

I'd rather not have someone try and "Fix" my age. If you have an issue with it I'm more than happy to fix it myself. Licinius was the first age i converted to export with the max plugin. I've just never released a new version because there's additional unfinished stuff in the next version. However if people still want to visit it I can put out a 2.5 version, just say the word.

It would indeed be better than having different versions of the Age laying around on the forum.

Sorry for "fixing" other people's Age like this, without asking their permission, I know it isn't really fair, but it was more of a test to me. I wasn't going to ask Diafero to put it on DI or UAM anyway... especially since the swimregions are broken.
