Problem: Vertex Paintbrush Will Not Change Color

So, I was trying to carry out the operation detail in Dustin's First Tutorial, below:

In blender, the box that shows "Edit Mode" or "Object Mode", also has "Vertex Paint". In this mode, you can paint 3D meshes. To choose the colour, you can make one of the view-windows a "UV-Image-Editor" windows, and select "View"->"View Paint Tool". This will allow you to set the color and radius of the brush.

Well, I get a brush alright and it paints; however, I can't seem to get the Paint Tool to change either the color or the radius of the brush. I'm stuck on white instead. Any clue what the problem might be...?

Jennifer,

Change your bottom box in the pic you've show to "Buttons" and select "Edit" (the button with the square and 4 orange verticies).

You'll have a panel now that says "Paint" where you can pick your colors and the size of your brush, among several other things too.
