Cavern Leadership?

Postby Justintime9 » Tue Jul 01, 2008 9:07 am

I realize that this may be a bit premature, but with cyan getting the rights back, and a player created content server possibly going up, we're going to need leadership (and the way it looks, cyan is in no position to provide it in the cavern)
so, here's my Idea: The guilds will be the main source of leadership!

as far as player created content, there's going to have to be some way to keep it suitable for URU (e.g people can't post just anything) so it doesn't turn into annother SL. The guild of maintainers will have to inspect ages for release. I don't mean that they'll be really strict, and get rid of any age that doesn't look perfect, but just filter out ages that're just a textureless plane with no footstep sounds.

anyway, I was going to say something about the other guilds, but this library internet computer is running out of time! /me sends quickly

Good thing you do realize that :)

One, them getting the publishing rights back doesn't necessarily mean that we get an online adventure back,
and two, if Cyan starts up a new online system, it's their call compleately.

I think for now our best bet is to wait and see what happens. I suspect Cyan has lots of plans already in the wings and they will be announcing lots of things over the next several weeks that pertain to the reopening. :) In the meantime, we can surmise and plan on our own and maybe fill in the cracks where we need to.

Season 2 was "Rise of the Guilds" so I think it's safe to assume that's what Cyan eventually wanted to happen in the cavern.

However, I agree with the posts above me. We need to wait and see.

Let's be honest for a minute. This is just between us, of course.
Frankly I doubt Cyan is doing a lot of planning right now. It's 10 people including Rand, Mark DeForest and RAWA.

Let's think of a more probable scenario:

Rand: OK we got our rights back. Eric, put a server up, let's open for subscriptions (I wonder if Kagi is still around?). Let's run it like D'mala for now and see what happens. If someone sends an Age and it's good, put it up. Mark, phrase that in nice corporate-speak and post it on the MOUL forum.

Chakal's scenario sounds very likely to me.

Also, the use of words like "leadership", can result in knee-jerk reactions from people like myself, so it may be worth washing the dye out of any red blankets that anyone intend to be waving. :7

You and I both. What must be avoided at all cost is any kind of authority other than Cyan.
Even Maintainers approval should be optional (it would boost your chances of Cyan approving your Age though).

Cyan runs the only MOUL server and alone decides what goes on it.

Although I am of the opinion that the community isn't mature enough for leadership in the Cavern, I do feel that all the Ages need to be screened and approved which, will more than likely be done by the Maintainers.
