Wow. You can't be serious.

Veralun is in fact not *following* the policies Cyan set out as rules, he is hiding behind them whenever he deletes a post or thread he shouldn't have. It has been stated and shown multiple times that he has failed to properly edit threads and ends up deleting permanently benign posts. He does not follow procedures correctly in doing these edits either, by not PMing people and permanently removing things from the forum.

I am surprised you would try the hide behind Cyan tactic D'lan.

I would agree with you if it were not for what BAD points out. I do not think but a just a few would disagree if the policies were followed and consistent. That is what has brought this issue to surface is policy is not being consistent followed.

Speeking of benign posts I do remember posting a thread about Boletinus cavipes, a mushroom that grows with a hollow stem I was comparing it to the shrooms in Teledahn suggesting it was a possible relative. The thread vanished I didnt think much of it until now

I disapprove of Veralun being a moderator of the MOUL forums for these main reasons:

1) Like a policeman, a moderator should enforce the law rather than do what he pleases. Veralun enforces non-existent rules.
2) A moderator should be able to tell you what rule (REAL, true, written down rule) you broke in a clear fashion. Some examples of a mod not explaining in a clear way are:
a. saying how a thread wasn't feeling right
b. saying that people where discussing on a forum
3) A moderator should not use his/her power to wipe uncomplimentary posts concerning them which would not otherwise be wiped. Veralun does this.

If Cyan wants to be super up-tight about their forum they can put it in the rules. However, until they do that, Veralun's harsh moderation is rogue activity. Talk about forum members breaking rules, Veralun probably tops the charts for doing unwholesome stuff on those forums.

I disapprove of the way he has done his job, though not of all his decisions.

I also disapprove of much that has been said in reaction to it, though I understand the feelings of those who have genuinely been offended.

I also disapprove of Cyan's failure to moderate his moderation, though I can see how it might be understandable if you choose to allow yourself that understanding.

I expect that Cyan will now take some action to redress genuine grievances. I do not expect this will stop the flak.

EDIT: and in fact, it can now be seen from this post that RAWA was aware of the problem and dealing with it (in the sense of seeking consultation with Rand and Chogon) last week (and that Whilyam was apparently aware of that before he posted on the MOUL forum). So hopefully that will lead to a good resolution to what has become a fairly ugly business.

I put down 'indifferent'. He had deleted/modified some of my posts, but each time he had notified me with an explanation that I understood (although I didn't entirely agree with it).

I can't imagine why anyone would willingly become a moderator - it seems like a thankless job. Obviously it needs to be done to keep these forums family friendly (albeit a dysfunctional family), but doing that for free certainly ain't worth the pay.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

In my experience it's much more difficult to mod a forum when you are not respected. When I was a mod here, I tried to help out as much as possible. Many of my ideas were not liked and when that was made abundantly clear to me, I resigned. I would rather be remembered as a former mod than as the guy they had to remove cause he was on a power trip.

Indifferent. I've never even seen the MO:UL forum.

I just like clicking the bubble for polls.

But what it seems like, this guy isn't too kind. I've been a mod before, and I know how much people hate be Moded. I can see the reason of deleting bad posts that clearly break the rules, but being a forum Nazi and deleting stuff like it is your hobby doesn't refelct too well on you as a mod.

I voted Undecided, because on one hand I disapprove of the oppressive moderation that is practiced at the MOUL forums, especially by Veralun, but on the other hand too much tolerance in moderation is not the way to go either. (this forum is a good example).

Personal attacks, or criticizing someone with the inevitable result of a backlash do not contribute to a discussion in any way shape or form. Don't get me wrong, I'm not deathly afraid of offending people by giving my honest opinion, but for the sake of good discussion things should remain relatively unheated. IMO moderation should be somewhere in between these two forums, not oppressive but not lax.
