The Birthday thread

Anything that isn't directly related to Age Creation but that might be interesting to Age developers.

Sure ! I'm still checking here quite often to see if there is anything new (although lately I didn't have much time to reply).

Hehe. Right now I'm checking the Unity engine. It's neat ! Maybe not as much as Unreal, but I'll be using Unity for school projects, so I figured learning Unity would be better for now.
Unity works very well with Blender. Has tons of nice visual effects. Scripting is a piece of cake. But the best is lightmapping: you just have to decide whether a lamp is dynamic or static. Lightmapping is automatic, and lightmapped objects still benefit from dynamic lights.
I do miss Plasma's multilayering techniques, though. Using textures that were added, multiplied or subtracted from each other was fun (those who've played Myst V ages with my version of Drizzle probably know what I mean). But it seems modern game engines completely dropped the behavior in favor of materials with single texture. Ah well.
