Want To Be A MORE Developer?

Suppose that Cyan was willing to take on unpaid intern developers for a MORE development team. (Put aside your skepticism for the moment, please.) Would you be willing to help get MORE started? More importantly, would you have the time to do this over the next 6 months or so?

If you are available, please reply with the following information:

  • Average number of hours per week that you can devote to MORE development
  • Whether you are a student, employed (part/full time), or both
  • Number of months/years experience in the following areas:
    • General programming (C++/Python)
    • Plasma engine
    • Database management
    • Bug tracking software
    • "e-Commerce"/online payment systems
    • Server software engineer
    • Networking or multiplayer gaming systems
    • System administrator
    • Quality assurance testing

Note that such a team could theoretically work on bug fixes after MORE goes online, e.g. fixing the maintainer wall, getting heek to be reliable, restore marker quest high scores, etc.

BIG DISCLAIMER: Cyan has said nothing about doing this project; this is all speculative. The poll is merely to gauge the level of interest in the fan developer community.

Professionally I have done QA for various electronics firms and cable systems, for oh about 10 years.

The only other experience I can offer is what I've learned so far in Plasma, Python and Age Creation itself.

Availability? Hahahhaha,,,,,,, easily 30 hours a week as I'm home employed.

I am interested, although an internship would be out of the question due to localization and full time employment.

  • Average number of hours per week that you can devote to MORE development = 8
  • Whether you are a student, employed (part/full time), or both = full time employed
  • Number of months/years experience in the following areas:
    • General programming C++ = none / Python = 4
    • Plasma engine = 4
    • Database management: Oracle = 7
    • Bug tracking software = 6
    • "e-Commerce"/online payment systems = none
    • Server software engineer = none
    • Networking or multiplayer gaming systems = 4
    • System administrator = 3
    • Quality assurance testing = 8

I thought I was doing this already?

The whole route of everything I do is towards building a MORE age.

I am currently devoting all my free time which varies between 30 and 120 hours a week I never really stop because some of it's subconscious. I like Andy am home employed (I think) (I am a kept man as we used to say).

In order to progress a story line that stands at over 80,000 words I needed to build a new opening to comply with a FECAL or whatever they call the fan licence these days.

So to do that I started beating my head against Blender, in order to make animations work I started the same process with Python. I have been working on home built games since 1984 (Eric Blair and Clive Sinclair provided some inspiration) (If you don't know who they are Google them treat it like a puzzle).

So I would say I am interested but once I have released this baby I have another fermenting outside the Myst Universe I would like to use the Plasma engine but Cyan are propriatory over that one so a More age may be a way in. I can only hope.

Sorry for the confusion, J'Kla. I'm talking about working on the MORE code base, getting it ready to launch - and not about working on ages (which we're all doing currently).

*ahem*

How can you be working on MORE's code base, when:

1) The project has been suspended.
2) Cyan was doing that.

So either you just mis-spoke, or just dropped a very big Bomb. :?

I think Robert means if it was able to be done, what could we give it?

I could only work on a contingency/as need basis, being employed full-time in a job that has a tendency to eat my life periodically. That job is in software QA for large, complex interrelated systems including eCommerce and online payments, so I can offer a certain amount of experience there.

* Average number of hours per week that you can devote to MORE development - can't commit to a set time frame. Could manage up to 10 hours per week if needed.
* Whether you are a student, employed (part/full time), or both employed full-time
* Number of months/years experience in the following areas:
o General programming (C++/Python) - 0 in these languages. Programming generally, 5 years
o Plasma engine - 0
o Database management - 1 year, mostly MS SQL Server
o Bug tracking software - I can use it, manage it, QA it and at a pinch customize it. 4 years.
o "e-Commerce"/online payment systems - Development 1 year, QA 4 years
o Server software engineer - 0
o Networking or multiplayer gaming systems - network management 1 year (Windows networks).
o System administrator - 1 year
o Quality assurance testing - 4 years and counting.

Neither. Like katreeny said (and the "big disclaimer", which might have to be even bigger), this is just to see who would be available to work on such a task - even though it is extremely unlikely to happen, ever.
