Yay! I Finally Have Time!

Postby andylegate » Sun Nov 27, 2011 1:26 pm

wow. After a very busy Thanksgiving Holiday, I FINALLY have time for myself. Which means.....

Time to load up TF2!!!

Oh, and when I loaded up the free tools from Valve to make maps for TF2.....this is pretty much the look I had my face too! ('cause it's just like the old Call Of Duty Editor I used to use! EASY PEASY!):

Could you please upload this video on some other service as well? Youtube keeps telling me that "unfortunately", this video is blocked in my country...
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

Probably a svastika somewhere in the movie.

Andy, have you played Portal and Portal 2?
I completed Portal last night and it is easily the best game I've ever played. Can't wait to try Portal 2, which I just bought on sale on Steam.
It is a great use of the Source engine, with neat graphics, fine humor and fiendishly difficult levels and puzzles, but not impossible to an old guy like me.
The whole idea of a portal-creating gun is pure genius. The humor part is provided by the IA character GLaDOS, a voice that acts as a narrator and guide for players undergoinf testing. Her voice is robotic, but distinctly female. She uses a very perfunctory corporate speak but the contents is twisted.

Examples:

GlaDOS: Please be advised that a noticeable taste of blood is not part of any test protocol but is an unintended side effect of the Aperture Science Material Emancipation Grid, which may, in semi-rare cases, emancipate dental fillings, crowns, tooth enamel, and teeth.

GLaDOS: The Enrichment Center promises to always provide a safe testing environment. In dangerous testing environments, the Enrichment Center promises to always provide useful advice. For instance: the floor here will kill you. Try to avoid it.

GLaDOS: Please note that we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an unsatisfactory mark on your official testing record, followed by death.

***EDIT: I just noticed that Tomala's avatar above is GLaDOS :)

@diafero: The video is not mine and I can not download it from YouTube. No idea why your country would block it as there are no svastikas or ANY Nazi symbols in it a all. It's simply a video of the Scout from Team Fortress 2 slowly falling with a very goofy smile on his face, with the song from Tom Petty, "Free Falling" playing. There is a mushroom cloud at the end of the video on the horizon of a bomb going off.....

Man, I'm glad my country doesn't censor what I can or can not watch.

Here, let's see if you can see any other videos for TF2. These were made by Valve themselves to promote their game:

WARNING: the following videos contain cartoon violence and gore. If you are not used to seeing this, it might disturb you. Kids under age of 14 should not watch.

I LOVE the music (I used to play Jazz in bands when I was a lot younger). Unfortunately, you only hear the music in these videos, or in the main menu of the game. So I copied the music files over, and load them up to play in Winamp when I'm playing the game.

Trailer when they finally came out with the Mac version:

Meet The Sniper (my favorite character to play):

Meet The Spy (the funnest one in my opinion):

Meet The Scout (reminds me of my oldest son. It's how he looks when he's playing any shooter game):

Meet The Engineer (yes, this is how us good ol boys in the Southeastern US talk):

Meet The Heavy (I actually know people who are like this....):

Meet The Demoman (I have a scottish heritage, from like 350 years ago. Some people say I act this way......not sure if I should believe them):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=han3AfjH210

Meet The Solder (you may not get this if you've never been in the military. Drill Sergents have all sorts of stupid stories they tell new recruits...I know. I had to listen to many of them...):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h42d0WHRSck

Meet The Medic (To me this was the most hilarious of them all that they made):

Here is a different link for the first video of Free Falling Scout that I posted:

The video is not censored because of it's content. We can't see it because of the music. Some videos contain music, which should not be available for free over youtube in our Country.

@Chacal: Portal 2 is also very impressive. But the best is the Coop-mode...

Interesting. Most of the time if YouTube feels there is a copyright violation via the audio, they remove just the audio. You can still see the video however.

I certainly hope your country did not block out the other videos I posted. Those all belong to Valve, the makers of the game, and they are the copyright holders of the video content.

wow. That must create a LOT of jobs for people in your government, going through places like YouTube to censor them if they see what might be a copyright violation. Still I'm glad we don't see that here, as there would be tons and tons of videos blocked on Uru and MOUL, heh.

When did Tom Petty's "Free Fallin" enter the public domain?

The Godwin's Law references were rather rude in my opinion.

"Godwin's Law"? Seriously?

Both Chacal and I were only trying to figure out why diafero could not see the video........

:stops typing and wags finger at sempler:

Nope. Nope. Nope. Not going to get dragged into an argument.

I just handed Hoikas something very helpful for the open source engine, that they've been needing for a long time, and the video posts were my parting gift to everyone else. That's how I'm saying goodbye. The same way I showed up: with a goofy grin, lots of ideas and dreams.

Y'all take care now, you hear? The Valve community is calling.

Adios!

Oh. I didn't realize you were leaving the community and saying good-bye. I thought you were just going to have fun with TF2.
