Higher Resolution for URU:CC

Postby Annabelle » Fri Nov 09, 2012 3:53 pm

I have a question about screen resolution.

1920 x 1080 ----> that's my native screen resolution.

I would like to play with that resolution in URU:CC. I remember having read something about a tweek we can do to force URU:CC to use higher resolutions. (I hope I didn't just imagine that!!!)

Thx for helping me out ;)

Thank you very much Gabriml, that's perfect. I set up my screen to 1600 x 900. It's widescreen and respect the correct ratio and gives me a better resolution than my big 1920 x 1080. I will fiddle my other PC too because I'm running into the same issue :D

Hemm... 1600 x 900 has a ratio of 16/9, not 4/3. Which means the image will be streched...

And this trick will only work for Deep Island and shards. It is possible to use it offline, but won't work this way.

Yeah that's a ratio of 16/9 because I don't even know why someone created the 4/3 in the first place... I mean  :? it's ugly! We are in 2012, I don't even recall the last time I saw a "fullscreen" movie or had a "standard" screen.

Beside the strech isn't that bad at all. On my other PC, I have a ratio of 16/10 and the image isn't strech at all. It's working fine on URU:CC offline since I don't play on shards since few months.

EDIT:  on my other PC that's not a 16/10 ratio but an "ugly" 4/3 ratio ;), i just saw the numbers and they are 1600 x 1200 which simplifies in 4/3  hmm ah ok that's fine still prefer widescreen ;)

.shorah :)

Uru CC need a minimal resolution of 800x600.

If you want to keep this ratio, using 1600, it's 1600x1200...
Is simply 800(x2) x 600(x2). :P

 But with the max size of 1920x1080, to keep the ratio 4/3, the max resolution is 1440x1080.

I hope that can help ! :)

ps:
- To know how to respect the ratio 4/3, I create a empty img 800x600 with my photo editor, and I change one of those numbers while I resizing the img with selecting "keeping the ratio" (FR: conserver les proportions). ;)

- I never use the 16/10 or 16/9... I don't like them.
Hum... It's not really right... I use 16/9 for my TV (only) !

I have a native resolution of 1920x1080 like you, Annabelle, and with Drizzle/Uru:CC offline
I'm playing in windowed mode with the highest resolution of 1600x1200 and it looks great ... :P

When I play in full view then everything is a bit stretched, but the pictures you take look nice
with keeping the 1600x1200 size ... So, full view might be more immersive, but windowed
mode looks best for Uru/MOUL and is convenient when doing other things besides exploring ... :D

No it's NOT! I stay with 4:3. It feels like it's what Uru was made to use.

Yes it is! Anything 16:9 looks absolutely horrid...

I hate widescreen, it makes everything look really fat and distorted.

I prefer 4/3 since your field of view is much larger with it.
Unfortunately my laptop has a native resolution of 1366x768, which means I have to play either in windowed mode (which I don't like at all), either play fullscreen (after changing resolution) and have a streched render...

When I really want to play Uru to wander in the Ages, I use another screen... with a ratio of 1.25... It's close enough to 1.333, but still streched.

Changing the ratio of the game is possible, but there is no function in the Python API that allows it. You could modify every cameras in every Ages so that their field of view uses another ratio (this is doable but quite long to do by hand). But this would work only for third person point of view. Or hack Plasma, but it's not allowed and works only for first person POV.

Hum... My native resolution is 1680x1050 (21" screen).
I've changed it to 1280x960 and I keep it everytime.
I play my offline versions of Uru in fullscreen mode, with the same resolution.
For MO:UL, I hide my Windows7 (x64) large taskbar from the right side of the screen (*) and I play in windowed mode, with the 1024x768 resolution.
Doing that, I can easily do something else while playing... Like StickyNot, music, Internet, and all I want to do.
If I don't want to do something else while playing, I just have to fullscreen it.
If I want to screenshot the game, I fullscreen it and I choose 1280x960 for a medium quality, or 1600x1200 for a best quality.

I don't have streched render doing like that. ;)
