I have a friend who has a very smart daughter, who is also interested in making games/mods, and has apparently done a few.

She must've gotten a grip on it by age 8 or 9.

Best of all my friend tried to get her to write a game with Blender Game Engine, i've had a look at it myself.
With persistence and egarness a young one can make a simple game with it, even a version of 3D pac-man wouldn't take long.

Compelling.

I remember trying to learn to code around that age... It didn't go very well. Then again, I had no teacher other than myself and online references. I did manage to learn PHP as a 12 year old though.

I remember my father trying to teach me spreadsheets scripting at around 8-9.. and stopping very quickly when he understood I was more interested in using paintbrush.exe than this maths stuff.. :)

I feel like a kindergarten teacher. An old one.

My first contact with a computer was in 1981, through a DEC LA-36 terminal, when I started programming APL on a IBM 370 mainframe.

It didn't do PHP or Paintbrush. You would have loved APL though. It still exists in a full-GUI version for PC and Mac.

My first experience with programing was in High School, back in 1981. The computer lab had a mainframe (sorry, can't remember who made it) that was called Bob, and was loaded up via a reel to reel tape system.

The terminals for us to use were Teletypes. That's right. No CRT monitor, but a typewriter looking thing, with a big roll of yellow paper attatched to it.

This to simply learn BASIC. :D

Then, in 1983, the lab was upgraded, with Atari's..........talk about being beamed into the futre! Here we were working with computers, and 5 1/4 inch floppies and COLOR on the screen! It was amazing for us. This was right about the time the Commadore 64 was comming out too. heheheh......

I still have my C64 somewhere. Can't bring myself to throw it out, even though there's a perfectly functional emulator for it on the PC.
Spent so many hours on that thing.
