Layer Animation

Postby Render » Tue Mar 26, 2013 11:09 am

Ok, I'm now officially stumped. :o
Normally I would try some ideas for a couple of days and eventually things would end up working, but not in this case.
I am completely lost.

Here's the thing:
I know from other posts that layer animation is possible, but I can't get it to work.
I have a horizon mesh with 1 material and 2 textures. I want the second texture (that sits on top of the first) to fade out and show the first, so this is what i did:
I created a material IPO on channel 1 (which i believe to be the channel for the second texture) using the col value on the map to pannel.
The IPO itself works within blender, but when i export, the second layer is not fading out.
I do have the materialanimation defined within alcscript and know that with just one texture in the material, the animation works fine in URU.

Am I missing something?

Hallo render, ;)
I don't immediately see what you are doing wrong.
Don 't forget to delete your sav file of the age after each new export.
If you do forget all will stay the same.
If that was not the issue i will send you a working example age.

Den, thx for the reply.
I make it a habit to delete my save file whenever i export, knowing it will negate any changes if i don't, so no unfortunately that doesn't solve my problem.
If you don't mind sending me an example age I would be very grateful!
Thanks in advance an happy rendering

Nevermind, found the culprit.
I had the Ztransp button on where it shoudl be off
Turning it off solved my problem.

Still interested in you example though.

Uhmmm....
Ther IS one more thing, does this work for colors (texR etc.) and sprites???
Trying that but to no avail, any chance you got a working example for that as well?

I have an example of an animated texture layer , because I made a small age with 7 journey clothes .
The clothes are animated, and responding on touching.

I don't know if you have ever tried to make a journey but it is extremely difficult to get it working.
It is that difficult because absolutely nothing may be shared in textures , materials or whatever.
Tooks me weeks to get it right, each time I came to 3 or 4 working clothes and then suddenly all went wrong again.

When I finally knew how to do it, I made this example age with 7 clothes in a row.
If you want to use it copy all involved items in your age and move them to the right spot.
Then all you have to do is replacing the texture with your own one.
Please keep the current textures in it for yourself, because I have these in use in my age " the cathedral"

The file has all including alcscript, python and sdl.
I hope you can use this.
Texture animation works for sprites.
I have a working sprite of a fire with 7 layers.
Each layer has a new frame of the fire. it behaves as an animated gif.

Do you have a mail address where I can post the file?
please PM it to me.
the file is packed about 750 Kb.

@DenDwaler, PM sent, awaiting you files with anticipation.

I have tried several things in the mean time, and found that color animation works with the normal color sliders in the material panel, however they seme to break when you add a movement to the object (in this case a sprite) causing the thing to completely disapear. I thought I had seen moving objects with changing colors somewhere, but can't figure out how that is done.

@ render ,

i did not receive a pm yet.

Disappeared? Does the sprite have a moving parent? That can be problematic sometimes.
Has to do with its position relative to the worldcenter if i recall it well.
Do also a CRtl A , move and rotate scale to object data.
