General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Hi, I'm Vamp

You'll be more likely to bump into a few little concept art pictures here and there. Personally, I am not very experienced with 3D modelling and it can feel pretty hectic at times, but I'll learn. I prefer to do more sketching, textures, drawing basically. I prefer to come up with ideas for design, color, atmosphere, etc.

Thanks

Just realized I haven't actually posted here yet ... I'm Topher. I have no programming or modelling experience, but I'm willing to try to learn. I have several vague Age/puzzle ideas floating around trying to take form, and eventually I should be able to contribute some music and sound effects to projects here and there. Looking forward to Writing fantastic Ages with all of you!

Hi, I'm Zimt. I'm brand new to Uru, but as soon as I learned about the guilds, I knew the Guild of Writers was where I want to be. I'm all about creating and building things. Since I'm new to the Cavern, I've obviously got a lot of learning to do before I'll be able to contribute much of anything. Mostly, I'm an ADHD idea machine, joining the guild in the hope that I can work some of those ideas into a usable format before I get distracted by the next one.

OOC, I'm also a pretty decent hand at 3D modeling, and I dabble in some C++ programming.

shorah b'shemtee! i'm christine.

i've been addicted to myst since....1993(?) when i bought the game for my dad because i thought the cover looked cool. the rest, as they say, is history. (i'm not as awesome as my boyfriend though with his tattoo inspired by ghen's crest...i'm working on mine. Great Tree ftw)

i'm a fine artist/illustrator and have long since desired to produce incredible, mind-blowingly captivating environments such as those found in the numerous Ages released by cyan. i'm good at taking a thousand words and painting its picture. creating the art is no problem, i work digital and traditional. i'm pretty useless when it comes to that 3d stuff (oh i appreciate the amount of work it takes), but if you ever want some sketches or paintings or whatever, send some text my way!

i am also currently studying the d'ni language, and beginning to look more into d'ni architecture, culture, and the physics of linking. because...i...obviously....have nothing better...to do......with my time....
>_>

righto.
cheers!

As pappou, i started to introduce myself earlier. But i felt overwhelmed by the huge accumulation of talent represented by so many writers. Now, i see that the accumulation has grown so much bigger -- and I am yet more overwhelmed. But clearly, it will get worse if i wait.

Perhaps i can fit in under the Conceptual Artist category; i cannot do blender and computer talk is not my language. But i have noticed that several people are suffering 'age making' aspirations but with too few physical images in their bag of tricks.

That is why i designed the Museum District for Whilyam and Jennifer P in SR:

Surely enough, it did seem to help visualize the situations better.

Now i am working with jordd and Leutwo to bring a new age, TwoCities Island, into a similarly helpful state of visualization:

It may even be that the accomplished Writer/Builders here, like Aloys, could use this sort of 2D planning. If so, i am here to help. But i may only look in wonder at things like 'ahra pahts'. No way do i fit into that scene. Still, i know from a lifetime of planning that well laid (2D) plans are the best means for organizing such complex ventures.

Shor-AH to all the lovely folks who work so hard at the craft of Age Writing.

Shorah!

I am Poete.

Fall primarily into the 'Storyteller' category here, but I have some experience with graphics design (including a little modeling with Blender) and programming languages.

I will offer story ideas and try to help out with design as I can.

:)

Cool post!

Hi everyone, I'm URUFAN56 and am new to the forums. I've played Uru for about 2-3 years now and think its the best game alive! I LOVE to make crazy places. I play the guitar and cello. I've tried to program but as far as I got was QBasic. I like to model (Blender) and make things. Just like to use my hands!I like to draw and think art is cool. I also like to make comics. I also find intrest in making games.
The world of Uru will never end...I want "MORE".

Shorah. Kehn ohk Dah'kree.

Ive played Uru for a while now... and defeated the entire Myst franchise. One day, I sneaked Uru onto the computer that had internet access, only to have Until Uru go down a week later because Cyan announced the re-opening of Uru Live. When that started, I was glad, and played for a few weeks. Then I was a part of the old Guild of Writers, guildofwriters.org, witch focused on the actual writing of the link to the age rather than the modeling of it, and later died. Then I started experiencing problems due to a bad install. I mean really bad install. Uninstaller failed, so I was forced to remove it manually. After that, the installer would not work, due to it thinking that Uru Live was already installed. It wasn't until three days ago that I discovered in my computer's registry files that it had some data left behind by the old installer. After I deleted that, the installer once again worked and I was able to play Uru again! The only problem is that now it has come to the time where you need a game tap subscription instead of just an account in order to play as an explorer... so all of those hours that I could have enjoyed myself have lost. You'll find me roaming around the public hoods as Shadowking97 until I get a subscription set up.

My current list of skills includes some skill in 3D modeling (made my avatar myself, even though I have no professional talent), in witch I plan to expand by helping create ages, or randomly creating my own. I am also adapt in programming, mainly games, and have worked with scripting before, may not have been python, but the same basic concept applies. I may even try some of the story writing... though many of my stories are completely original and have nothing to do with Myst, but I feel like it is about the same concept. Also I have never actually written any of my stories... I had found long ago that things change way too quickly, and I could focus on one story for about a year, and then when everything settles into place, it is too long and I am too lazy to write it down...

I am even forming an age in my mind now, though it is too early in its stages to post any details, I will start posting solid details once they become...solid.

That is basically me... so Dah'kree, signing out.

Silly me, I forgot to introduce myself.

The name is Grogyan, and played the Myst series from about 2003, was on Prologue in 2004, I didn't play much on Until Uru, but i'm still here.

I'm a writer in learning, learning everything myself, somehow.

I also build robots in my tiny amount of spare time and part of a group http://www.robonz.com

I am currently working, but I also hope to study Mechatronics.

Since joining the Guild of Writers before it was officially sanctioned, I have been doing my est to learn Blender, and i'm getting better.

I hope Blender will one day soon have its game engine sophisticated enough to simulate my robot projects, but just like in programming a game, there is A LOT of variables to work with, that the game engine doesn't support.
