New plugin question

New plugin question

Postby Goofy » Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:21 am

I decided to test the new plugin. I created a new .blend file and then added a new book. I looked thought the layer and there was nothing. I check everywhere and nothing seemed to be added, but the Dos window said it did something.

So what did it add and where is it? Normally its on the 3 layer, but mine has nothing.

Goofy,

The new plug in does not put anything for the Book in any layer now.

Instead, change one of your windows to the Text Editor. Then click on the up/down arrow.

You should see these options:

init
book
ALCscript
Open New
Add New

Click on Book, and you will see all the settings for your Book and Pages in the Text Window.
That's how they do it now.
Hoped this helped.

hmmmm well thats different. :? why was it changed? Kinda got used to it being in a layer. Is that something we have to save extra or does it get saved when we save the .blend.

Not sure why they changed it (to me it's a bit easier to see and read).

Yes, it get's saved, along with any changes you make, when you click on Save or Save As for the blend file.

hmmm well now other questions ;) I figured out about the text file, but now when I export I get no errors, but if I try to goto a simple test age I just made with a box, plane, 2 cylinders and an empty. I get the corrupt error and reinstall URU error. I know about the bounds button, but I set it and I still get the corrupt error. So whats up.

Kinda seems things are getting more complicated then simplier.

Just curious, but with these new changes won't you have to change it even more when/if cyan starts things again?

edit: wanted to add that when I get the files are corrupt error I check my dat folder and some of the age files are gone. whats up with that?

Yes, it was mostly changed because of easier readability and writability - and more flexiblity and clarity in the options.
And because having these objects for books was an ugly hack, which actually makes no sense to a first-time user.
(And it still doesn't make sense to me as a long time-user :P)

So, we changed it - the alcscript infrastructure was already in place, so it was a pretty easy thing to do.

And, to reply to your crashing uru problem - it sounds like a problem with the sequence prefix - there's probably another age with the same sequence prefix lurking in your dat folder.

(Yeah, double-posting, I know... I never actually saw the reason why it's considered so bad)

well trylon thats what it was. I was able to link to it, but even with the bounds button pressed I fell through the floor. This is what I meant before about harder. Since before all I had to do is place a col_type in and the floor was solid(unless that still in there somewhere?).

If this has been posted somewhere on what needs to be done on new fresh ages. please post a link to it. :? :? :(

Now, all you should do is press that Bounds button, and set it to "trianglemesh" or "convexhull" (you probably have it set to "box"

It isn't harder than adding a logic-property called "col_type" and setting it to "4", it actually requires less mouse and keyboard actions.

Isn't this stuff in the Your First Age tutorial on our wiki?

Sorry, Goofy, not complaining about you asking questions, I'm an ex-teacher, and want people to ask questions, but at the same time I'm worried that the info was omitted..........

I'll have to go look......

No, okay, the stuff about the Book is there....but....

Uhm, ain't the Surface tutorial a bit complex? What I mean is, shouldn't you start someone out with a Basic Room first? Instead of showing how to generate shapes, terrain, etc, right away?

What I'm getting at is have someone build a basic room, floor, walls, ceiling first, just to get a handle on things, like having to use the Bounds box and selecting things like the Static Triangle Mesh.

That was one of my chief complaints about the Alcugs tutorials, as many other "Editing Programs" for a walk around 3D enviorment, always start you out with building your First Room.
THEN get into the more complicated things......

:shrugging: sorry, just an observation here.
