Camp Bravo Day Time 2.1

Postby andylegate » Sun Feb 17, 2008 11:42 am

For those that are curious or just wanted to look at that "upstart Maintainer's" Day Time version of the Age, here's a link to download it. Install instructions are included.

Campbravodaytime_2_1.zip

There's a inspection/comment thread for it over at the Maintainers Forum. You can slam me over there if you so desire. :D

EDIT: Uploaded a new version that fixes a bad lag everyone was having from having Shadows turned on.

Should it be causing all this "lag"? I can hardly move. Camp Bravo night was ok. :?

Waiting to see if anyone else has it.

I see over at GoMa that you included Justin's bookshelf. Wasn't that a huge resource hog?

No, as I used the one that Nadnerb removed all the extra verticies.

The lag......appears someone else suffered it too, and based upon what they said, I linked in.....and also got a lag like there was a hundred people there!

Shadows!

If you have Shadows turned on for you Avie, the Age suddenly goes into one huge Lag! Turn shadows off, and the lag goes away.

What in the world could be causing that? I only have 3 lights in the whole Age! The Sun, The diffused that's above and to one side, and one under the Age for some light bounce, also diffused too.

oops! I was wrong! I have WAY more than 3 lights.....and that's what is causing the lag.

I have a lot of low energy lights lining the slide tunnel, had forgotten about those. Way back when I first made it, I turned Ray Shadows button on each of them off. I just went into blender and turned Ray Shadows off on all the lights but the sun, re-exported the Age and the lag goes away. so even though I was no where near those lights, because I had Ray Shadows on for each of them, it was causing a HUGE lag.

I can see this being an issue with the next Plugin, as I'm using the "Bleeding Edge" one right now, not the published one.

Are you confining any of your lights with softvolumes?

Noooooooo.......

Didn't need to do anything like that before.

And until we get a really good tutorial on the Wiki about it (as the one on Alcugs, while okay, seems kind of confusing, not to mention doesn't deal with the new plugin), I won't be messing with Soft Volumes at all right now.

However, I did turn off all the Ray Shadows on all the lights but the Sun, since in this Age, it's only the Sun I want casting shadows anyway. Fixed the problem. Now the Avie only has one shadow, and there is no lag. The new version is updated in my link above.

using softvolumes is easier than using those sound activator regions. Just use the add scripts to create a softvolume, and then put the name of the softvolume object in the "softvolume" property of the light you want to confine, using either alcscript or text props.
