DZS New blood, new ideas

Postby Szark » Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:26 pm

Hiya all. I had an idea and got the OK from Trylon to post over at the DZS (D.ni Zoological Societiy). Go to http://www.explorerslodge.org/forum/vie ... =2441#2441 for full post.
I posted:
Have any of you thought of making your own flora and fauna. The GoW use Blender to model things. If you don't know Blender, you can model with other programs, such as Maya, Vue, 3DS, etc. You can still build stuff and export it as an OBJ file. They can then import those into Blender.
I have recently downloaded blender from http://guildofwriters.com/wiki/. I am proceeding to teach myself and I must say I am not the most computer Savvy. I am not looking to make ages, just things to go into them. This is when I thought of you.

Now THAT is a good idea! I don't really have the time to devote to learning Blender, but I can certainly come up with concept sketches...

Wow. Awesome. Who would we send the stuff to as we do it?

Tofer wrote:
I really like this idea as well. I installed Blender quite some time ago, but never felt like diving in whole-hog and writing an age from scratch. This seems like a great way to get into it in small steps.

Thumbs up!

Can someone pop along to answer their questions and to give some guide lines. Would that be possible. :) :) I still do not know what is required. One thing I do know is that you can import that scanned sketch into blender. Are there restrictions and etc?
Anybody think of other sites to contact, but is unsure what to do just give me a PM and I will get onto it.
Take care

Any more of this silence and I will get the impression that this is not wanted not to mention what DZS might be thinking. I thought I had a good idea, looking back to find out how many Cyan staff worked on URU. 30 plus I believe. All doing different things to make ONE age. I thought how many others out there feel the same way, not wanting to make a full age but could contribute to the WHOLE.
Please tell me I am not wasting my time.
Take care

It's not that people are not interested, or think that it is not a good idea, if you don't see any replies right away. Please don't assume that here.

Many people here are busy, busy working on their own Ages, learning how to use the new plugin, etc, etc. They may not always have the time to read every single post, much less comment on every single post.

You may have many people here that think this is a great idea, but don't have the time right now to get involved in it, so they don't make any comments on it.

I think it's a great idea. Do I have the time to help? No. Sorry, but I've got too many things on my plate right now. I've got 2 Ages that I'm making corrections to. I've got a 3rd Age that I've started that will be the Maintainers Home Age. I've also now found myself involved in making an Age for the Rapid Age Competition that started up, and I now have a team of Maintainers that are helping me design and build this Age.
None of this includes Real Life stuff that I'm also having to deal with.

So there you go. I think your idea has a LOT of merit and should be discussed further, and I'd love to see action taken on it. I'm sure there are others that feel the same. Just wait.

If you don't see someone reply to your post right away, don't get upset or think that nobody is paying attention. Simply bump the post after a day or two, asking if anyone has had some thoughts on it, and that you could really use some feed back.

Same here. I can barely spend time reading the forums these days, let alone actually do anything.
If I ever get around to modeling things in Blender, I'll be happy to share.

Yeah thanks andylegate for your comments but I think I have, once again, confused things a little. What I should have said is "Could someone pop over to the DZS and say we see you and thanks we will get back to you". Just a simple 2 or 3 minute post.

Now that I have a better understanding on how busy you all are I will hold off the ideas until things have settled down. I wouldn't want to upset anyone. I will go away and teach myself Blender so that I will know what I am talking about. Then maybe I can take this back up again with out the need for someone to back me up.

I just thought about losing any momentum to get new people to contribute after April 4th.

Copy that. I have tons of ideas and no time whatsoever. Can't even get some of my tutorials finished. The idea of sharing is a great one and very welcome!

I have decided due to your comments to write my ideas down and submit them at a later date. I have just been given some advice, which I will take, about taking to much on and burning out and so on. Very valid nevertheless. I just find all this so exhilarating and infeactous thats all.
3 weeks and counting until Complete Chronicals day. Then I can take a peek.

Edit:
- Thanks for going there Jennifer.
- Hmm, planned on making a short post but "your account needs to be activated by an administrator" hmm :/
