Bridge (Model)

Postby Jennifer_P » Mon Jul 21, 2008 1:28 am

Well, after a slight miscommunication between Dakro and I, we now have a lovely model of this bridge here:

Here's a render:

And here it is in Blender...

Gorgeous, aren't they? ;) The model will have to be redesigned somewhat so that we don't exactly copy the Cherry Blossom Garden people's bridge design, however...

Bravo!
Dakro... great job! It came out just like the photo.
I'll be posting all my bridge sketches here then to make them easier to find.
I've got the overview of the bridges all done and will scan them in today.
Thanks for all the hard work.

Ah, such nice, clear diagrams. It seems that pappou taught you well, indeed. Keep it up with including the materials like that; it's helpful for texturing. :)

In the moon-style bridges overview, I see that there is a curved step...what bothers me about that is that near the bottom of the step the grade is very steep...In real life that would be a tripping hazard.

I like the look of the iron bamboo railings; I think they might look good on the moon bridges?

Hm, the stone texture on that bridge is a lot older looking than the one we were using on the concrete bridge...It looks nicer, I think, with the moss especially.

So I'd be interested in hearing everyone's opinion here...Shall we go for realism and use new-looking textures on our artificial structures, or should we go for a more aged appearance, with moss and lichen encrustations, staining, etc?

G'day Jennifer,
Yes I agree it does look nicer with the moss. I think you should go for a more aged appearance on the bridge, with the moss and lichen encrustations, staining, etc.

It is interesting to note how the stone bridge is made out of very simple shapes, as if someone designed it in Blender and wasn't too good at it.

I have lots of stone+moss textures.
