However the problem lies in the cost to the person who runs such a server (as we can't ask Cyan for help financially, i the state they are in). As well as how much load one such fan run server can take. I'm assuming (I never ran a Uru Server myself) that a server sufficient to hold the entire Uru Community would be expensive, and that the server would have to be top of the line to run efficiently for the community.
There can be more than one server in a shard. A shard was actually meant to be a cluster of servers. I.E., D'mala was actually three physical machines.
As I said, i didn't run a shard myself, so wasn't sure. Then a single shard idea is the most ideal opportunity at the moment. One, it wouldn't be Until Uru, it would be more of a combination of MORE/UU. As, it would be free, like Until Uru was, but at the same time be used to continue the roadmap for MORE, with testing fan multiplayer ages, and ironing out ways to implement those ages into MORE. Plus, in a legal sense, it would give Cyan more control over the game then just letting us run free with it. There could be communication both ways, while at the same time, letting Cyan continue on their own till financially they are stable enough to start up the MORE Roadmap.
On the other side, i'm really curious about the "major source of revenue" that dropped away so suddenly. I find it odd that it coincides with GameTap being sold, and merged with another company, and makes me wonder if the agreement that came between Cyan and GameTap that Cyan could host MORE, and GameTap would offer limited financial support till the launch time, at which point the support would come only from subscriptions from us. And that once the merger took place, the new owners of GameTap shut the project down, cutting off a major financial backing of MORE. This coupled with the Wall Street Crisis, and left Cyan with few projects to draw MORE resources from.
