Grogyan and I have decided to add a twist to the contest - see the following addition under the Entry Guidelines section:

Additionally, the contestants will be given some item (to be determined at the start of the contest) to incorporate into their age. The item must be visible somewhere in the age in order to qualify as an entry.

Note: This is intended to test each contestant's ability to adapt their design spontaneously. This item is not meant to be the focus of the age; rather, it should be just one small part of the whole.

If you have any questions about this, just post them here.

Robert, will the item to be added be the same for everyone, or will each contestant be given their own unique item to design and incorporate into their age?

I'd like to lodge a slight protest about this:

EDIT:
I had a long post arguing about this, as y'all are taking this off the original idea: How beautiful can you make a simple small Age? Instead you're making it into: "How fast can you think on your feet?"

Whatever. Please make sure you get the objects assigned ASAP on the 1st of Nov.

GPNMilano: the same item for everyone, in order to be completely fair.

Andy: the original idea still holds, as you said: "how beautiful can you make this small age?" Adding this extra challenge does not change this goal. In fact, this challenge helps assure that the planning/design of the age occurs strictly within the 3-week time line, as we discussed previously.

Right.

It forces us to build something around an object that belongs to someone else, that we had no hand in creating.

Even if a person somehow completely blocks their mind to even thinking about the RAD until 1 Nov. You are still forcing those contestants to have to build an Age around the object. Period.

I can't simply get up on the 1st of November, and go: "Okay, now that it's started, I think I'll build an Age that is snowy!" only to find out that I've been handed a Palm Tree. Now I have to completely trash the idea of making a snow Age, unless I also include a cabin that has a potted miniture palm tree in it, when before I would have put a ruined temple in as the only structure........

The restrictions were suppose to be simple: Size, Simplicity, Stable, and As Pretty As You Can Make It.

Now it has the added restriction on creativity: WE are not allowed to make what WE want. Now we must make something based upon an object that SOMEONE ELSE has thought of.

 if it's what y'all want, then I'll make sure the object is in the Age somewhere. I've done Ages upon request before. The only difference is, when that happens I go from being a Age Creator to an Age Builder. Big difference.

Andy, there already were restrictions on your creativity before we introduced this item. Let me explain:

* Take all the possible ideas for ages that you could ever think of in your lifetime.
* Now throw away all those that cannot be completed in 3 weeks. [Restriction #1]
* Toss out any that do not follow RAWA's rules. [Restriction #2]
* Get rid of any that exceeds a 200' cube. [Restriction #3]

Boy - those were ton of ideas we just removed! And we haven't even come to the additional item yet!

I'm asking you to change your perspective on this. Adding this item (and it is a very small item indeed) does not hamper your creativity any more than the other restrictions that were put in place. This is a very minor restriction compared to the others, as I've just pointed out.

This object is unfair.

I don't really think it's RTR or Grogyans call to put this in. IIRC Grogyan and RTR just jumped on the bandwagon after Aloys and I and a few others had the idea AgeDevelopmentCompetition (it was just me in the beginning to be exact). Thanks to Grogyan it turned into a real event but would've without him. Then RTR come on a scene more recently.

This is not a contest if there is this thing. It's a game. I want to build _MY_ small age. I'm not in the habit of including other peoples' work in my age (what if this object doesn't fit with my light-baking scheme? What if this object looks like cr*p?). I strongly believe that this is stepping across the line.

I don't mean to get mad. I just want this to be a contest on people's creativity rather than how well they can incorporate some prefab object.

Hey guys... Maybe we should do this: Let's just have this RAD with Andy's suggestion, making beautiful small Ages, and the next RAD will be centered around a spontaneous item. I actually think it will go better for EVERYONE (judges included) if we split these up. I love the idea of both, but in the idea of fairness for all, I think it'd be best to do them as separate contests.

So can we just stick to the small Ages for now, and the next round do the spontaneous item theme?

If this rule is implemented, then I do not wish to be a judge. You should never change the rules after people begin to get onboard. At least, we sensible folk don't.

In fact, I would even go as far as suggesting a boycott of the entire RAD contest.

Yes.

I want this to be a small age contest and nothing else.

Later we can do something like Robert and Grogyan says (I like that idea but I think there are too many restrictions having it be little AND fit some object in).

So let's do Andy's idea and then we can focus on Grogyan and Robert's ideas. :)

Thanks Nynaveve (you saved the day here). :D

Edit: @TsarHoikas Yeah, I was thinking about it but didn't know how much support I'd get for a boycott. I like that idea (if this "object inclusion" thing isn't retracted).
