thats not what it says in the Wiki ... it says "You may request technical assistance, but you must ultimately produce all content yourself."

IMO, that means using anything made by someone other than the author is not allowed ... (it has nothing to do with the things you USE to make the content (Prp, etc) ... so that argument is not valid)(IMHO) ...

but hey folks... I thought this "competition" was supposed to be about us enjoying ourselves ... it seems that it is being taken far too seriously (by too many people) ... :roll:
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...

Which clearly excludes the use of textures that you didn't personally create. But who personally creates all of their textures? At the very least, an exception was made in that case, and that exception should extend to anything the participant has permission to use.

I did ... for this competition ... every single one (hence the lack of story, sounds, animations etc in my Age ... textures take a long time to make ... )

... but then, (I thought) I was just doing what I was told ... ;)

This still remains one of the main concepts of such contest, to have fun!, and shouldn't ever be taken too seriously.

We are not of D'ni decent, we shouldn't fall into the same over zealous pride that they did.

That I found just a couple of days ago when Andy brought up that question, this is clearly something new since I lasted visited Cyanworlds.com.
That page also very clearly defines the process to by which you can get approval to use any of their assets, and for subsequent contests we'd have to define whether or to what depth Cyan's assets can be used.

I know that for new areas of D'ni that lamps, firemarble sounds would have a direct impact on what we do, but textures are still too much of a grey area

Which means I completed my entry (not the Age mind you ;)) just in time.

Seems I'm still in the running :D

It's a definite work in progress - the only backstory I have ready is the map which I included in the download, and in the wiki (by link).
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

I've emailed Mark D and asked him to come over here, read this thread, and to make an official statement from Cyan on this issue (as far as being allowed to use Cyan Assets, including textures). We'll see what he says (when he gets around to it, remember, sometimes it takes a while).

I've noticed that GPN's age uses a Cyan texture.

Since we've given Andy such a hard time about him using altered Cyan textures I thought you all should know.

The texture in question has been more used it's been renamed so it looks like it was made for the age.

"islmrailings*0#1.hsm" is the Cyan one.
"licimountainsteps" is the GPN one.

I was wondering about my age I submitted. I had a PM from BobLishman about the waveset version not working. I think I know why it's not but didn't have enough time to re-upload for the judges. So, I have no idea if any of them can see the waveset version. If you're a judge and can see the water in that version can you please post here or PM me so I can figure out how widespread this problem is. Thanks.

I'm glad I sunk the time into some decent non-waveset water. If you can't see the sea in the waveset version get the non-waveset version. Sorry for the technical trouble. I'll work on getting it fixed after the contest is over.
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

I'm not a judge of course, but I can see your waveset just fine.

Did you use the Geostate in your alcscript? That fixed it for a lot of people in my Age.

Renaming the Cyan texture is quite natural: IE Blender does NOT like files named whatever*0#3.hsm.dds, you normally have to get rid of the .hsm part at the very least. It likes DDS files now, but I think it has a problem with multiple "." 's in a file name.

Actually the reason that particular texture is there is that it was a placeholder texture. I guess I just forgot it was there. I didn't get around to lighting and uvmapping the stairs, and replacing the texture.

The reason that it is renamed, is when I did get around to replacing the texture, all I had to do was replace the file, rather than the name of the mipmap thats exported (which is what you are seeing) all of the textures you'll note in the age, are named in the same variant. So I know what each age it goes to in my Textures file. I just never got around to removing that particular texture.
