Of course there is the other problem to sort out, Inter and intra Age chat and group chat

Cause i've been spending some time in Second Life, I must say that the way they do the chat inter face is really quite robust, perhaps we can rip that interface off for use in a refurbished/new KI.

A main chat window, that has tabs below it for PM and group messaging and Local Age messaging.

From there, what about auto saving chat logs?

Been working on another mock up, expanding on the one I posted above

BTW the chat above is an example only, that conversation hasn't happened (yet).

It needs a bit more Myst feel.

One thing that I did like about the PotS KI was that it had the coordinate panel open all the time.

In MOUL, it was a pain to check coordinates because you had to stop and open the full KI in order to see them.

Its a rough example, Myst like would be having the layer in front of the chat window but behind the text it self would be holographic static

I think we can completely IC change the KI as long as we:

a) only change the holograph
b) keep the same holograph-look (complete with static)

This can be explained just as easily as the perfect roman characters when you bring up the KI. This would only be re-programming.

Edit: About your design Grogyan, I think it looks fairly good. There is one thing that pops out at me as being wrong though: Buttons too small and fiddly. I've always liked how the KI has a large interface... some games have tiny buttons and curves and detail. The KI is very chunky and I like that. There's always that: I'm SOOO dieing of multi-tasking feeling when you make it too easy to have more than 5 different chats open.

Part of what I enjoy about Uru is the limits. You can't (usually) get exactly where you want to or directly do what you want. It makes things feel lifelike and also special when you succeed at completing something. I don't get this satisfaction when you feel like a god over a map (as I imagine secondlife is). Uru'd get pretty dull if everything just worked.

Tab size can change Lontahv in both height an width depending on what conforms well.

In Second Life the tab which has a new message on it would flash, this can work just as well for the example i've portrayed
