Vista 64 and POTS

Anything that isn't directly related to Age Creation but that might be interesting to Age developers.

Has anyone figured out how to get it to run on Vista64? I can get URU to run fine if I don't install the other two expansion packs. It's only when I install POTS and To D'ni that the game crashes.

Thanks

I should add that I tried compatability mode and even signing in as a "real" administrator thru the DOS prompt.

Did you try and run the sound decompress, it should've done that automatically

The CD key isn't used, as that was intended for Uru Live back in 2003.

There are two other executables which patch up the game, but other than the uru.exe they all need to be run under XP compatibility mode

Also when you run the gaame, at the login stage check your settings, graphics and sound before actually loggin into the game

Green Dragoon mentioned about installing it on Vista and Win7

WHEW!

After buying and installing URU:CC it works perfectly on my Vista64 machine. Either the code is tweeked or my copy of POTS was corrupt.

Thanks to all who helped.

Me too. I D/L'd Drizzle and started running thru ages. I love it. I have a LOT to catch up on.

On a side note I thought I broke something when I accidently activated fly-mode.

TPotS was available as a digital download, I remember downloading it the day it came out. Unfortunately, the installer is DRM-laden IIRC, and there's also no redownloads of it, so there goes my legit copy of TPotS :P

Glad online game stores have mostly worked that thing out nowadays :)

I'm happy to report that I have got my POTS (not CC) installation working on my new PC running Vista 64 Business.
It was installed from the original ABM CD back in 2004, then I downloaded and applied To-D'Ni and POTS when they came out.

Here's what I did:

1- Copied the whole Uru game folder and subfolder to the new Vista machine;
2- Ran Drizzle, installed the official no-cd patch;
3- Ran Urusetup.exe
4- Click on "Play".

I have tested almost all Ages and I haven't had a problem so far.

I notice a slight performance gain on my new PC:
- time for loading game after the intro movie: 4 seconds
- time for loading Ahra Pahts (after typing "/link pahts": 15 seconds
- time for loading Fens: 2.5 seconds

:D

Heh, I remember returning the TPOTS download for a full refund once I figured out that you could only have 5 or so installs from it.
I then immediately bought the CD. :D
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.
