modding an age?

Post by robbieagray »

Can you add stuff to an already exist UCC age. If not is it because it is against the laws set up by Cyan or is it techical.

Technically, you can. It's as hard as adding stuff to Cyan ages (actually, it's exactly the same) and involves importing the original age and exporting the objects you add as separate page with the right sequence prefix. Of course you will also have to properly add it to the age file.
However, why would you want to do so? I can't see any reason...
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

Robbie, you can add stuff to any age, but its best to err on the side of caution. Such as if its a Cyan made age, you probably shouldn't unless its for your own personal use. Most of the additions that come with the offline ki (the relto stuff, various hood and city additions) were things that were included in MOUL that I backported with new prps for the offline ki. But all of it was stuff that was originally made by Cyan, and I just made into new PRPs so that it would easily mix with Uru offline.

That being said, if its a fan created age that you want to add to, your best bet would be to ask the age owner first, and if its okay with them to go for it. All you'd need to do is make sure to use the same age sequence that the original age has in your book.txt file in blender, and make sure to give all the objects a new page number that won't clash with any existing page's for that age.

Then when you export you choose the "full age as per page textures" option instead of the "generate release age". You'll also have to add the new prp to the age file, and checksum the sum file, which you can do with PlasmaShop.

What if you add new textures to your new objects? Where do the textures go when exporting?

Textures are normally saved to their own prp (called "Textures") but they can be saved to any prp, so if you add pages to an existing age and use new textures, you should set it so that textures are saved to the new page that you are adding. The per-page-textures option does this by saving textures to the page containing the objects they are used on.

I was just asking because it would be cool to add some extra content to the original game. Like pictures (not links) of explorers exploring the uru live ages on the neighborhood imagers. :)
