Breldur, my new age

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

Thanks alot. :D

A few days ago Lontahv, tachzusamm and Aikijitsu already wrote that Breldur looks like an age that is really used by the people who live there.

So I'm very proud of the realization of a simple, tiny detail that many people maybe don't see at first sight: Check the video #2 again and play forward to 01:59 minutes! It's not easily to see, but there stands a coffeepot on the oven. The fire crackles and animated steam comes out of the coffeepot's spout. That means that somebody just put the pot a few minutes ago on the oven. Who was it, where is he gone? Am I not alone here??

Yeah, just a little bit of tiny steam makes me believe that the age is alive!! :D
It's a feeling that I can't discribe with words. But I think it's really important to have a feeling like this in an age.

I'm really proud of my tiny, animated steam. 8-) *la la laaa*

I didn't watch the video because I was so busy the past few days, but when you mentioned a coffee pot, I rushed to the link as fast as the laws of technology would let me.

Very impressive Age. I love surprises.....If you're actually going to make a person there sitting out on a small boat net fishing, please keep that a secret. I'd love to be surprised to see people living there. It would make all the waiting even better.

Keep it up.

P.S. As a rough estimate...What % are you complete with this Age? If you don't mind me asking.

That was a very brillant idea Jonnee. If you feel like it, use more of them. (like clothes on a clotheline animated by a small wind  )

Me thinking about a pot with a stew on a stove and having to click the cover to see the "fuming" stew. I am getting hungry just talking about it it. :D

I just found this thread and I am amazed at how great Breldur looks. I think you have grand plans for the age, and so far you've delivered a lot in four short months. I am somebody who hasn't even begun the process of learning to create ages, I want to thank you for sharing your accomplishments along the way. The landscapes, rope bridges, caves, flames and even the steam of the coffee pot are wonderfully done. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing it completed someday.

I watched your videos and noticed that you had a comment from Cyantist / former Cyantist, Eric A. Anderson. Excellent!

I've visited quite a few fan made ages using ULM, but I think your age will be very popular once Cyan gets Open Source Myst Online going (hopefully soon). I don't think it will be an age where people only link in once and say, "that was nice". I think that your hard work will be rewarded, and we will be rewarded for our patience. Oh, and did I say that I think Breldur looks amazing? :D

Cheers to you, Jonnee.

Just one little comment: any way to fix the camera a bit? when you sit on the platform outside, the camera just woosh through the wooden piller. It's not that important, but it could be nice to be fixed, if possible.

PS: are we sure fan ages for CC would work on openUru too? are these the same?

@Aikijitsu: I'm done with 50% of the age.
I still have to realize 18 caves, all footstep sounds outside, all doors and buttons. I still didn't busy myself doing the code, that will take a long time too. My biggest fear is that the game will be much too big at the end. Blender already starts to lag for a few seconds now.

@Nanouk: I like your idea of the clickable coffeepot. Maybe I use it later. I could work with clickables and drawing an object invisible/visible.

@Chuckles: I've already started a conversation with Eric. Waiting for his answer...

and @the stranger: I'm going to fix it.

Yes we are sure.
They'll need a re-export with a modified version of pyprp, but they'll work!

OpenUru is a misnomer, as they have no intention of open-sourcing Uru, just (parts of) the engine and tools. They won't work initially, no. Re-exporting with Pyprp in the Moul format can work for some people, yes, but besides the regular differences you would expect, Ages written for an older version than the moul-supported Pyprps cannot simply be brought forward to newer versions; it is a ton of work to do so, as Pyprp is not backwards nor forwards compatible. If we do get the engine source eventually, it should be possible to either make alternate readers for the different formats (which would be very slow to load due to various poor Plasma design issues (they actually use string reference lookups for all the objects!) and the very different animation formats), or by making another converter, this time from Pots->Moul prp formats. And of course, some Ages use the physics engine in a particular way that may not transfer to other engines, so either those will stop working, or we would have to have the client also be not fully open-source. There are other issues as well.

So, it is far from trivial, but it may happen.

Yeah. Does sounds like quite a complicated problem.

By tools do you mean point and click to instantly add object, etc.? It would be awesome it that were possible. It would make writing a whole lot easier. Maybe even Jonnee's Age would get out faster. :D But he might go way overboard and crash our computers.

Well one good thing is that some of Uru will still be closed off just in case Cyan makes a come back. It would be a shame if they want to re-open the cavern and they couldn't because everyone has made their own Uru clients. (If I'm stating that correctly. I'm not very bright when it comes to this kind of stuff) :ugeek:
