My Opinion on the Relto Book

Post by Atrion »

... I will start of by saying this thought came o me afte a few days n nights of no sleep so i hope it makes sense to more than just me.. :P

... I've heard a lot of discussion on the Relto book and speculation on how it works and here is my thoughts

... I Yeesha was to have written the small age of Relto she could have wrote it in a way that the combinations of her words which were to form certain aspects of the word so that they were to appear in a specific order in the book. Now as we know someone can add to or strike things out of a Descriptive book and it will change aspects of the world, but it will be the same world, so if all the 'words' needed to say add a bench to the Island were located on one page by themselves she could remove the page from the book, therefor removing the 'formula' for the bench from the book, and the world. The Relto page images we see in the game are a simplified version of the Writing actually on the age forming that aspect of the word, made simply to ease our understanding of what the page does.

... SO I was thinking if Yeesha (Through probable trial and error) wrote out the whole book (Forming Relto as we know it after retrieving all the Relto Pages) Then removed each of her pages (each dealing with a specific aspect of the age) she would eventually end up with the Relto we know when we first get our book.

... As to how each person gets there own Relto my thoughts are this, Though This Idea would more than likely take her a long while to complete. If we consider our Relto book to be a Descriptive Book and not just a linking book I think there is a simple explanation. If Yeesha was to completely copy the descriptive book from beginning to end it would create/link to the same age but a different existence of it.

... Also to cover the matter I have heard some people saying about the book being so small as another reason it is a Linking Book and not a descriptive book, keep in mind Relto is rather small, so Yeesha could have wrote in what she needed, leaving the rest to the Art and chance, as far as well know Relto consists only of the one Island and Vast emptiness.

... Well these are my thoughts (Or maybe Ramblings) but I would like to hear what people think.

Yeesha would have to bo making perfect copies at an outrageous rate.

Wait, no she wouldn't! She could write an Age in which there are thousands of Relto books...and just link in and grab one whenever a new explorer comes along. Genius!

My "simplistic" theory.

When we first visit the desert, we meet with Zandi. He is reading a book.

If we use the flymode and are patient enough, he will show us the book cover.

The title of the book is:
Quanta
Exploring the Mysteries of the Multidimentional Universe

So it seems that Yeesha with the help of her father has learned of a way to travel to different alternate universes/worlds/locations and times.

According to the findings in Myst 5, this kind of travelling was made possible by adding some of the Bahro genetic materials to the ink and possibly to the books themselves.

So, you can see as many Reltos as there are multi-universes.
(The main differences between each Relto, would be your Relto book and .... username)

That's called "linking" and the D'Ni were doing it thousands of years before Atrus. The whole Art is based on parallel universes.

I don't remember that from Myst 5. It certainly doesn't explain how Gehn could do it, trapped in Riven with no Bahro.

Salut Chacal,

Ghen did not need living bahro, only their secret and powers.

Bahro genetics was a polite/respectfull word for Bahro skin(s). :P

Just a note, my notes on the Bahro on the Beneath site are part speculation, it's an In Character study of the Bahro, so not everything on there is canon.

Whilst Esher used the skin for his Linking, there is no evidence to say all Linking Books used traits of the Bahro to Link.
