or 2) He has modified it to contain malicious code. Based on his personality, these are both very real possibilities. And in case it is the second, I *strongly* recommend that no-one runs it, whether they visit Pelishard or not.

aha?

You quote only a part of ddb174's posting. This is the whole text:
ddb174 wrote:Dhel is now distributing this fake version of Drizzle. Since there is no reason that Pelishard cannot use the real Drizzle, two motivations come to mind: 1) He may just be trying to create some drama by annoying me(he does this to numerous people; a "drama-queen" as they say in English), or 2) He has modified it to contain malicious code. Based on his personality, these are both very real possibilities

The whole text sounds some different......
The word "vegetarian" has an Indian origin and can be translated as: "the one who is too dumb to hunt".

Das Wort "Vegetarier" hat einen indianischen Ursprung und bedeutet übersetzt "Der zu blöd zum Jagen ist".

No, Dhel, we never said you did. Let me quote another post by Dustin:
there isn't any malware hopefully

He even confirmed that the source you published was clean. The malware was one of many possible reasons for your actions Dustin mentioned in the first posting. He said you *could* try to write and spread malware, that is all. He never said you did it, and so did nobody else.

I may be wrong but I kinda get the feeling everything that has been done so far to Uru CC is a hack or copyright infringement in some form or other. Cyan being the artists that they are have over looked it because of the quality and the care that has been put into it. With all the skills you guys have collectively you can make Open source the best version of Uru Live Cyan has ever seen, and you can use these shards as a beta testing format until then. But even if Open source happens its not gonna amount to very much if you can not work together.

Completely true !!! :D

I have no skills in programming too ,but youre totally right, they are worse than politics!
Instead saying things in a good way , they try to make delayan the worse guy in the world
you are all doing opensource stuff with something that dont belong to you !!
Their program is open source (and verygood!) , but i dont think their spirit is open . (maybe fallen in the source :) )

Could you imagine what they could do collectively if they where to put their differences aside and compare notes. for instance "hay im gonna try to start my own shard but I wanna try adding some of your stuff to it you think you can help me get it running?"

who knows maybe Cyan is just waiting for everybody to start working together?

That happened, and I never said no. I even helped Mystler and Dhel setting up their Shard, fixing bugs in the source and so on. However, they decided to kick me when I registered at their forums (after fining out, without them telling me, where that could be done) - would you still expect me to help them then? Please have a look at the first post of this thread (except for the theories about why he did the fork, that was cleared up later one) for some more reasons. Dhel is not the only one setting up a Shard and using our software to do it - and we never had any issues with anyone else so far, which is the reason why you couldn't ready anything about it here.

I'm not eager to make anyone the bad guy.

Karkadann... Working together... that is and is not a trait of the Uru fans, depending on where you are looking from. There are small teams and groups that work well together and they are usually pretty good at sharing information, so things move forward. There are always disagreements and those that are never satisfied and not only want things a specific way but insist. Some communities boot them out, others let them stay. Some groups are well organized and well motivated and participating with them is enjoyable. Others are groups held hostage by the few that contribute the most and involve lots of ego. All seem to contribute something and since no one is really in control it all bumps along.

Find a group that works for you and participate with them.

Google makes tech videos for programmers running various types of projects, Open Source Survival. (55min video) but they are valuable for any online community. If you are worried the 'disharmony' in the Uru fan base is a problem, check out how one of the most successful organizations going looks at things.

Infringement and EULA violations are a mixed bag. At some level Karkadann is right there are conflicts with what is being done and strict interpretation of Copyright and EULA. There is however this grey area we are in when most of what is being done now will eventually be legal. So, many fans and Cyan are not overly upset.

As diafero points out Dhel tells his side and it sounds nothing like what the rest of us can match to our reality. But what does a new player from the iPhone crowd know and think? Attacking Dhel makes one looks bad... countering the argument with counter claims makes for he said and she said that is not overly convincing. The best tactics for controlling the problem and keeping a healthy community are in the video.

The Uru fan community survives even with all its problems. No one sees how that is possible, but it does.
