Sky problems?

Post by Sifr »

Hey everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so mods, feel free to move it.

So, I've been messing around with my first Age that I've been writing, but I'm stuck and experiencing problems when I try to get the sky to work. I think this might be because my version of Blender isn't the same as the one that's in the tutorial? Basically, no matter what I do to try to get the UVsphere to show the sky textures, it either doesn't show up when I link into my age, or it causes UruExplorer to crash!

Any help for a complete novice?

Have you made sure that the normals of your sphere point inwards, and the sphere doesn't have any negative scaling factor? (You could check that by using flymode to go outside of the sphere and see if it's visible from there.)

So far I've managed to get it to show up, but yes, its for some reason, on the outside instead?

How exactly would I go about finding out if its got a negative scaling factor? Flipping the normals doesn't seem to work?

To check the scale factors: In Object Mode, select Transform Properties from the Object menu. If you do have a negative factor, correct it using Object > Clear/Apply > Apply Scale/Rotation to ObData.

To check the normals: In Edit Mode, push the Draw Normals button in the Mesh Tools More panel of the Editing buttons. The blue lines should point inside from the faces. Adjust their length using the NSize field above the button if they are too short or too long to see clearly. Mesh > Normals > Recalculate Inside should fix them.
