Do any of you even know if converting these Magiquest files for Uru is even legal? Has anyone here even bothered to ask Cyan or Creative Kingdoms about this? I REALLY don't think it's a good idea for us to assume that we know better than both of the companies on this particular issue. We need to ask them first before doing this, unless no-one here is going to ask because we know what the end result we will most likely get from both companies.

I'd personally be more than happy to ask on behalf of us all. :D

Private use is probably not an issue. It's not allowed, but no-one needs to know, or wants to know, what you do with your files on your home computer. (Well, don't share them.)

However, once converted, you could put the ages on a shard right? And play MQO for free? I doubt very much that Creative Kingdoms would like THAT to happen. They might drop Cyan just to be safe, you know?

For my part, I'm fine without MQO ages in UruCC, thank you very much.

Also it would be nice to get an update on the actual Uru stuff. Did anyone get the Gahreesen wall working in CC yet? Or the ahyoheek table? What about those tutorials that were almost done? I am sure that a lot of people would like to experience and explore more ACTUAL URU STUFF rather than having the MQO ages in UruCC just because it's possible.

Oh well, maybe it's just time for me to take a break from all this Drizzle business.

Jamey, I really don't think they want you to ask them. Then they have to either say "don't do that", which loses sales and interest, or they have to say "yes that's okay" which means they lose some de-facto legal control. If they are likes most plaintiffs in corporate law, they would probably prefer that you not ask them :P

Edit: indeed, if you look at their last two announcements, this is precisely what they are doing.

I personal think it might be best for open source to stay away from the MQO age's. If this is their next project I don't think it would be very wise for us to do something to compromise a project they are planning to turn a profit from, especially with open source being a freebee. We may end up shooting ourselves in the foot.

I generally agree, completely unrelated to any legal issues which might or might not exist: This has nothing to do with Uru, and unlike Crowthistle, it is not some dusty old non-interactive game but their current project. I think we should separate Uru and MagiQuest. Creative Kingdoms might not be so happy about our knowledge of the engine their game is run with. It is good to know we can still visit these worlds if MagiQuest doesn't live long (provided they are actually nice environments :) ), but if we continue hacking each of their unrelated projects (wasn't there some start for Hex Isle support in Drizzle?) they might really feel persecuted - as if they could never again just build a game with their engine just because they let us do too much. I don't think we should annoy Cyan.

On the other hand, I perfectly see the technical challenge (though I assume the engine is very similar to MOUL)

Speaking of Uru and Myst stuff to work on, what's the state of realMyst support? :D

MQ in Drizzle would be a disaster, in some way. It may very well make MQ a failure, which may end up in Cyan Worlds shutting down. Please, if you can respect the least of their wishes, stay away from MQ.

I think that a better thing would be working on realMyst support.

Who do we report it to? And what would keep them from hacking it again after we report it?

I think Tweek' post was in jest.

There's something a little sad about someone making an awesome Soviet-style poster telling you it is your duty to report transgressions, and then someone else *actually* wanting to do so :P

Once again for those who do not think about logistics: if it costs $10 for unlimited play, then they actually make more money by having people pay that same $10 to get it to play it in Uru. Once again, you'll notice that Cyan isn't even asking you not to use Drizzle, just that they neither approve not disapprove of it. This is just a small project with three Ages for the first chapter; future chapters would cost additional money. But first chapter one needs to be successful, something that would be helped by people buying it to use in Uru.
Welcome to MQ Online. Continue your journey or begin it now. MQ Online presents: “The Portal Adventure Series; Chapter One. The Clan Courtyard and Twisted Woods Realms.” Download Chapter One now at $9.99 for unlimited play and to earn special powers that you can use both online and in the real world at any MQ location

I hate to think what the community response would be with something that actually lost Cyan a dime, considering their response to something that makes them money. But then, how boring would an open community be without the "CompanyX is infallible" people? :P
