Is GoW a specific target of a spam sweatshop somewhere, or are we just getting the same onslaught that other forums get?

On the forums I admin I banned pretty much the same countries that Trylon mentioned.
Most eastern Europe country names at least.

Because websites that tend to have forums have very strict setups coded in them to block various locations as well as strict set up requirements for new accounts (like typing in the sequence of letters in a word picture to prove you are human), while we here at the GoW try to be a bit less stricter with our requirements so that those in other countries who legitimately want to sign up and contribute can. Just like the mods here don't delete topics or posts unless thoroughly offensive. Unlike at the MOUL forums where you mention the word "hack" and you're likely to get your post deleted. (I'm exaggerating of course. Kind of sort of.)

True but we can be stricter and still be friendly to other countries. All it would take is setting the board to require new users to authenticate themselves. PhpBB can do this I know. To be able to sign up it would require a legit email address, something most spammers do not give, as after sign up they get an email with instructions to authenticate their account. This would cut down on the number of spammers posting here as it would cut out all the bots.
