Blender on Windows 7

Post by Tweek »

Over the weekend upgraded my OS to Windows 7 and have noticed that Blender is now really slow and choppy, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Hmmm, not tried yet. I just upgraded my machine to a whooping i5 and 5850 card and installed WIndows 7 and Blender. Still waiting for memory replacement. Will try Blender on Friday. Hope this is not the case, because I intend to do some serious work in the upcoming weeks :(

I tried it on my laptop and it starts up lots faster then on my PC, but I need a actual mouse or trackball to use it. Haven't really used it all that much though.

Hmm, wonder if it's a RAM issue

I always wait quite a bit to upgrade when a new version of Windows is released to make sure all potential compatibility issues for my usual softwares and tools are smoothed out..

7 is a little less demanding than Vista in the RAM department, if you have 2 gigas and a decent HD you should be doing fine.. Also, you have probably already done this, but make sure your drivers are up to date; especially for your graphics board.

LOL, that's why I'm still sticking with XP. Until the time comes that absolutely "forces" me to upgrade, I'll stick with the buggy version of Windows that I have now. No sense in upgrading to another "buggy" release. 8-)

It is possible that you use the wrong or an outdated videodriver. When you use the driver Win7 installed it is possible that 3D-Support is disabled.
When you have a Nvidia card: The newest driver has some bugs, use the driver from 2010 Jan 19.

Just Don't press the F1 key in Windows XP. ;)

Unixen give you just enough rope to hang yourself, but Windows(tm) gives enough so that anyone can hang you. ;)

In URU it doesn't do anything, and in Blender it brings up the Open dialog. Out of curiousity, what is it that you are referring to?

Edit: Ahh, RTFM....
